The Monument of States is a historic site in Kissimmee, Florida. It is located at the Kissimmee Lakefront on the corner of East Monument Avenue and Johnston Street. On December 8, 2015, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

History[edit]

The Monument of States was built as a tourist attraction by Kissimmee physician Charles Bressler-Pettis, who collected many of these stones during his travels. At the time, Bressler-Pettis was the president of the Kissimmee All-States Tourist (KAST) club, and collaborated with his fellow KAST members to come up with the idea of creating a unique monument to bring tourists to Kissimmee.[2]

The monument is 40 feet high and is composed of different stones fixed to blocks of cement. The stones on the monument come from the 48 continental states (Alaska and Hawaii were not states when the monument was built), as well as from 20 foreign countries.[2]
