The Painkillers

The Painkillers are a garage band from Perth, Western Australia, formed in 2005 by Joe Bludge (Joshua Reynolds) and James Baker. This initial line-up was eventually extended in 2013 to include Martyn P. Casey and Richard Lane.

The band formed in 2005 at Baker's suggestion after seeing Bludge perform in a small Perth venue as a singer/songwriter. As a two-piece band, with Baker on drums and Bludge on guitar and vocals, the Painkillers released three albums: Drunk on a Train (Blazing Strumpet/Reverberation, 2006), Love Cancer (Truck, 2009), and Feel the Pain (Off the Hip,2011). The band toured nationally several times over this period and won a WAM award for best punk/hardcore band in 2009 (https://www.pedestrian.tv/music/wami-award-winners/). This incarnation of the band persisted until early 2013, supporting a number of touring acts such as The Lime Spiders, The Beasts of Bourbon, The New York Dolls, The Black Lips, The Stems, Thee Oh Sees, Bon Iver, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

In 2013, Martyn P. Casey (bass) and Richard Lane (guitar) joined the line-up. This incarnation of The Painkillers self-released an EP, Garage Sale Girl (2014), and continue to play sporadically in Perth, at various times supporting touring acts such as The Scientists, Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds and Tex Perkins & The Ape.
