The Elephant Statue of Elephanta is a life-size statue of an elephant that was near the docks of the island Gharpuri (know known as Elephanta Island) in Raigad District, Maharashtra, India.[1] The island was named after the the statue by the Portuguese, which they called it "Iiha Elefante" or "Elephant Island", to differentiate other islands in the Arabian Sea.[2] It is know placed outside the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum.[3][4][5]
