The Protected areas of Goa are located mostly along the verdant Western Ghats of Goa state, India This is one of the richest reservoirs of biodiversity in the world. The Sahyadris section that lie within Goa, dominates its ecosystem and includes a bewildering complexity of plant, animal and bird life. 755 km2 (292 sq mi), being 20 percent of the total geographical area of the3,702 km2 (1,429 sq mi) of the state, are protected areas declared to protect the natural fauna and flora and to conserve the biological diversity of the State. In Goa, there is one national Park, one bird sanctuary and five wildlife sanctuaries. The largest of these is the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, which is being considered to be the first Project Tiger tiger reserve in Goa.[1]
