Biography[edit]

Loany Briceno-Varela (2002- present) born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Fluent Spanish speaker and writer, as well as English. Interested in Dental Hygiene as a career. Currently a registered dental assistant graduated at Sno-Isle Skill Center. I love to swim, spend time with friends and family, and play violin. I am enrolled in violin classes, playing with my church's worship group. In my leisure time, I watch Netflix, go to the movies, go shopping and travel with my family. One interesting fact about me is my name, Loan, because is a Hawaiian name although I am not Hawaiian.

Some parts of Wikipedia I am interested in are the reading and editing process. I am still new, nevertheless, I am slowly understanding the criteria of a good editor. Throughout my English 101 course I will be editing articles and analyzing what can be corrected and what can be improved. As mentioned before, I am bilingual, therefore, I could also edit articles in both languages. Since I am Honduran, I imagine myself editing articles about my country. With my background, as a Christian and Honduran, I could write about my country and religion. If I become involved with the encyclopedia over the long term, after I graduate as a dental hygienist, I could write articles about oral health and the importance of dentistry in society.

Article Evaluation[edit]

The article limit switch caught my attention since it was short and it was last edited on 2018. When I first started to check this article, I thought it was not going to need as much edits since it was edited a year before this date. Nevertheless, it was easy to catch what it needed to be done. I visited the limit switch page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: citations, structure, and age.

Citations[edit]

Citations are very important in order to bring credibility to an article. In this article, there are not a variety of citations. There is only one citation in this article. It is located on the first sentence of the second paragraph. There are many sentences that need citations. The sentence "A numerical control machine such as a lathe will have limit switches to identify maximum limits for machine parts or to provide a known reference point for incremental motions" is it not cited. It does not provide any credibility. The author may have made that up, it seems like that because the articles lacks of citations. The more proper citations, the better the article is. In this case, the article only provides one citations, making the article poor.

Structure[edit]

The structure of an article is what makes an article look professional and organized. In this case, the structure is not well-organized. The article lacks of sections. The only information provided is situated on the area corresponding to the lead paragraph, where it should briefly summarize the main ideas of an article, not just present all the body. In my opinion, the article, limit switch, should have a sub-heading named usage, where it would describe all kinds of usage a limit switch is used for. The article does provide the usages of a limit switch, but they are not organized under a section. If the articles organizes then it would be easier to find the information provided. It would also make the article more formal.

Age[edit]

It is also very significant for an article to have current citations. Limit switch, as mentioned before, only has one citation, which is "Stephen Herman, Industrial Motor Control Cengage Learning, 2009 chapter 11 "Limit Switches" ISBN 1435442393" which is a book from 2009, not a recent source, ten years have passed since its creation. Adding more citations and making sure they are current is what makes an article proficient and gives it credibility. Although the article provides well-written information, it lacks of current citations making this article unsatisfactory.

Summary[edit]

Overall, in my opinion, I would rate this article with a five out of ten. Limit switch needs considerably attention and it needs to be organized. I would say it is not a reliable article since it only provides one source and it is not even a current source. The article provides useful information but it is not separated by sections which it is a critical point for quality.
