Beit Jamal (Arabic: بيت جمال / الحكمه) is a village and Monastery Catholic of the Order Ahslziany lower in Italian Judean Hills , near the southern side of the city of Beit Shemesh.
The monastery is located on a hill at 370 meters above sea level and about 35 miles east of the coastline. In the monastery there are three buildings: the monastery for women, the Church of Saint Stephen Monastery for men.
General information[edit]
Meaning of the name in Arabic is "a beauty" and is attributed to a view overlooking the beautiful scene. The traditionally Christian area formerly called Gamla Village (Village Gamaliel), the name of Rabbi Gamliel Nicodemus who was president of the Sanhedrin in Yavneh and was buried there. The tradition of Jewish tomb of Rabban Gamliel in Yavneh, but his estate was found was in a village made up , is home to Jamal.

Opposite the entrance to the monastery, the "Tel Gamaliel, was a building used as a monastery for men. Some olive trees belonging to the monastery are centuries old. The vines are used to produce wine at the winery Cremisan , who also belonged to the order Ahslziany. Building entrance to the monastery products sold (olive oil, olives, honey, candles and ceramics) in two small shops. The monastery is also known Cremisan Winery wines. Monastery are concerts of classical music on Saturdays. The place used to locate tourist attraction to many Israeli travelers.
Church of Saint Stephen[edit]
In the fifth century a man named Lucian dreamed that the bones of Saint Stephen are at Jamal. Indeed miraculously found bones in a church was built here and Byzantine . Old church was destroyed in the Persian conquest of the Land of Israel in 614. Stephen was the first Christian saint that stoned to death on the walls of Jerusalem because of his faith. Christians believe in retaining Stephen Rabban Gamliel held him during the trial that he believed the way that allowed this land of Stephen's burial.
In 1917 were in the courtyard of the village of Beit Jamal remains of Byzantine church from the fifth century. Among the findings were the foundations of the Church, the remains of a mosaic and address in Greek . It also was discovered in excavations, which lasted until 1922, a cave a half oval with three tombs : Tomb attributed to Rabban Gamliel, son Avibuas tomb tomb attributed to another which is attributed to Saint Stephen.
The name of Stephen established the monastery courtyard, the Byzantine remains, a new church in 1932. Mosaic remains found at the site of the church were transferred to the wall outside the church Stefanos Greek inscription remains in place on the floor of the church.
Monastery women[edit]
This is the monastery's main building. It was established in 1873 by Reverend the Italian master Antonio balloons, a member of the Latin Patriarchate. Land was purchased back in 1869 funded by the British Marquis de Bot Lord Catholic other European donors. In 1878 began the building to be used as an agricultural school and boarding school boys are poor and orphans. .
