Topic Proposal[edit]
For my article I will be working on Youth empowerment. I first became interested in this topic when I worked on a youth empowerment movement this summer called We Day. This page already exist, however it needs a lot of work. I will focus on the difference between youth empowerment programs through organizations and through governmental policy. I will examine the work organizations do for youth, how they work to empower youth in society and their outcomes in society. I plan to look at organizations within the global north and global south. I will also examine youth empowerment through governmental policy. I will look at how governments create policy that empower youth in the global north and global south.
The article is currently separated by country, with only three countries listed and none are in the global south. The three countries listed are the United States and two countries in the U.K. The article is currently just a list by list instead of a comprehensive article about youth empowerment. I think that it would be more beneficial to work an all encompassing definition of youth empowerment as a lead paragraph and look at how that varies in the global north vs. south and from policy to non-profit organizations.
Lastly, I hope to include a few case studies about how youth empowerment movements have helped youth across the globe. This will help prove the benefits of youth empowerment policy as well as programs. I will look at case studies from a wide range of locations to highlight the success of youth empowerment programs and the differences between what these programs and policies look like around the world.

For my first source I have identified an article that researches female empowerment and youth development through non-traditional education and poverty alleviation in the Philippines. The article also discusses the four dimensions of empowerment which will be very helpful in creating a fuller definition. [1]
The second article I found discusses 4-H and how they work on urban youth development. I can use this article when discussing NGO organizations that specialize on youth development. The article also discusses principles used to develop culturally responsive programming. This will also be helpful when discussing ways that organization create youth empowerment programs. [2]
The third article I will use focuses on Pots of Hope, a youth and women's empowerment organization in Nambia. This article highlights all of the good these programs do. I can also use this article to highlight female youth empowerment and how that can help end gender division in youth and young adults. [3]
For my fourth article, I have found a study that examines government programs in place in Zimbabwe that help indigenous youth find jobs and their success rate. I can use this article to examine governmental programs in place compared to the many private organizations. [4]
The fifth article I have found is called the Global Youth Index. I want to use this as a base line for what youth look like around the globe and take into consideration the recommendations that the article mentions for policy makers, youth, implementers and donors. [5]
The sixth article I want to use examines the process of developing engagement among 38 disconnected youth who are either gang-affiliated, involved with juvenile justice, or homeless. These youth reengaged into educational and workforce experiences through a comprehensive youth development center. I want to use this article to examine the success of educational and empowerment program for high risk youth. [6]
The seventh source I will use use an article I found referenced many times in many of my original articles. It explains in full detail about the types of empowerment porgrams and about how empowerment will help kids. I think this will be the most valuable source I have found so far. [7]
The eight source I will use is an article that discusses a framework for youth empowerment. I also found this article listed as a source within another article. [8]
