My Background

My name is Jacob Veloo and I am an aspiring artist, composer, sound designer for visual media, and current student of Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music in Boston. My primary interest in music is the field of music production and how it relates electronic music as an elevated art form. Secondary to that is my interest in how audio events combine with visual ones to create emotional responses. If there is one idea that I would like to communicate to others it is the idea that the world around us is brimming with beautiful sound and that the sound-scapes of our lives can be sublime. I really don't know what music is, but the one thing that I know with absolute certainty is that I have a love affair with sound.

My Music

Much of the music that inspires me is electronic in nature. I believe that we as human beings are a species of artificers and that has always been our greatest strength: we invent things. Tools. From the invention of agriculture to granular synthesis, mankind's melding with technology has always fascinated and compelled me. Music technology has now advanced to the point where one can create any sound that can be imagined with greater and greater ease. Sounds can be combined, reformed and amalgamated, distressed and distorted to a near infinite degree. As a result, the cumulative sound-scape and cultural fabric of humanity is constantly expanding through the power of distribution of information technologies, which is what makes electronic music so exciting to me.
