Born in 1941, Electronic Engineering 1965 Delft Technological University, PhD computer science 1975, emigrated to New Zealand 1975. Keen diver and underwater cinematographer/ photographer.

By 1987 I discovered that New Zealand seas were deteriorating alarmingly rapidly. It made me decide to become a marine ecologist and establish a Marine Conservation and Education Centre in Leigh, in 1990. Seafriends is an independent charitable organisation, entirely funded from our own savings.

By 1997 I began writing an extensive web site because only by learning more about our environment, can humankind mitigate the disasters it causes.

The Seafriends web site: 1.7 million visitors per year, 3000 printed pages, 8000 files but 50% completed.

My passion is to make people aware of the plight of the seas and what to do about it. This can only be done by saving the land first. I see Wikipedia as an important stepping stone from which people can find more in-depth articles.
