Hello, world.

I’m Erika, and I am an undergraduate student from Portland, Oregon. I am exploring being a Wikipedia editor for my writing class. Although this is a class assignment, I am personally curious to learn more about this. I haven’t used Wikipedia since middle school, and I didn’t even know that individuals could create user pages and that these volunteers are who are responsible for the vast majority of the material that can be found here. I also have an interest in this because of the research component. I am in a research program and am excited for the opportunity to brush up on some of my researching skills as well as hopefully acquire some new ones! My research interests are childhood trauma and adversity and how that chronic state of fight, flight, and freeze can lead to negative long-term health outcomes. I am a sexual assault and domestic violence advocate, and spend quite a bit of time volunteering every week. I will be joining a research team that is currently studying domestic violence, and I hope to one day have a career in social research so I can be a part of the scientific community dedicated to solving health disparities and social inequalities. My personal interests include binge watching The Office, riding quads and shopping online!
