David B Smith is Chair of the Entertainment Technology Department at New York City College of Technology (CUNY), founding partner and Director of Research and Development at Realtime Music Solutions LLC, and President of Bianchi and Smith LLC. He was resident composer/sound designer at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park for eight years, and received his doctorate at Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music.

Dr. Smith has been extensively involved in orchestral simulation research since the late eighties, and, along with Frederick Bianchi, was responsible for creating the first system used in a major performance by an opera company ([Opera Kentucky]]. He holds a patent (6,696,631) in music performance systems, and systems developed by him have been used in over twenty thousand performances, including Les Miserables on London's West End, several productions of Cirque du Soleil, many national tours, among others.

As a composer, he has written music for all sizes of performance ensembles, and has designed sound for several hundered productions across the country.
