Metro Team History[edit]

Mr.Mighton, have you been able to find the individual scoring leaders for the years that you have found? I'd be really interested in those if you come across them. NCAA Watcher

Re: 88-89 standings, I know St.Mike's finished with one more victory, so won their last game. If you know the team they played, you can give them a loss.

GMHL[edit]

I don't understand why you choose not to include the sanctions imposed by other leagues on the GMHL. It is a matter of fact. Junior 'A' Affiliations[edit]

Hey, I finished the Spokane Braves - I don't have time right now to do the season by season (especially because they have 34 seasons to sort through). I'll probably do all the team pages and then update their histories at a later date... I'll also be watching Revelstoke and other pages for wierd updates. I tend to agree with you on creating a separate article on the SJHL Broncos vs the WHL Broncos. They were two different teams. Nice work with the stats, btw. Gloucester Griffins[edit]

It's my understanding that this is not a professional box lacrosse league team. It therefore seems to me that it is not sufficiently notable for inclusion in this encyclopedia. It wasn't my intent to move to a process like AfD immediately, but hostility to inclusion of something like the notability template makes it difficult to have a discussion about the notability of the organization. Legionnaires vs. Legionaires[edit]

Hi, the bot seems to be changing the odd sports team called the "Legionaires" to the "Legionnaires". I know that "Legionnaires" is the proper English spelling... but for some reason some Canadian teams spell it "Legionaires"... Is there anyway we can avoid these changes? Infoboxes for the Thunder Bay Northern Hawks and other teams[edit]

(Response) : I've had some experience with conditionals in templates, which could take care of most if not all of those problems. If you can give me a few examples of "problem" team articles, or ones that it's been difficult to fit possible standards to, I can take a shot at creating a composite conditional template over the next day or so that could be useful for all the articles. CJHL[edit]

Yeah, it was pretty big news here in town. I am not sure if anything happened on the ice during the actual game, but the arena they were playing in uses one hallway for both teams to exit the ice. Apparently the teams were exiting the arena at the same time and something sparked a melee between both teams. Fans/parents got involved, and during the brawl, someone "wearing skates" kicked the linesman in the head, knocking him out. Both teams are suspended indefintely pending investigation by both the league and police. I added a little blurb on the Calgary Junior Hockey League article. Resolute 17:18, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Ice Hockey Wiki[edit]

Hey there! I stumbled across the Ice Hockey Wikia and thought it was one huge idea - in fact, I found it because I was going to request wikia a ice hockey wiki! It seems dead, will it be revived? I'd be very interested in contributing, in fact I already started a few NHL team stubs, just for the hell of killing red links - there'll be plenty of time to make something better later.

Anyway, the project really interests me, I'm not much into minor hockey (except for the CHL), I'm more into NHL and European leagues. It might be quite feasible to get some interest in the thing, it just needs to be advertised in the right places and to grow so it gets more often seen on google and so on. Well, so I think... Well, I don't have extensive knowledge on the matter, my areas of "expertise" if I can say are rather NHL and Europe/Asia/International hockey. But well, I do know some things, I certainly am in the province and can quite possibly find what you look for - feel free to ask, I'll do my very best to find it. I see. That requires some researching but I think I can help you with that. I took a sneak-peek at http://www.lhjaaaq.qc.ca/ you have league standings, scorer lists and goalie stats from season 2001-02 to today; same for playoffs stats (the whole website is also available in English). Don't know whether you already found it or not, but it's a beginning. For older stats, maybe sending an email at info@lhjaaaq.qc.ca kindly asking for those stats might work? They must keep archives and I can't see why they'd refuse to share them, especially since it's for such a good reason as wikipedia. I can ask them for you if you want.

Info on this season in the Midget AAA league is not hard to find, if you lack some, I can easily provide it; older (like, last season and further back) needs researching. By the way, you might want to look at this: http://www.tournoimidgetstleonard.qc.ca/index_ang.html It's a midget tournament held in St-Leonard. It started yesterday and counts 92 top teams from various midget leagues (categories are AAA, AA, A, BB and CC). They say it's an international tournament, but at first glance, it just looks like only Quebec and Ontario teams are registered. Maybe they've had foreign teams joining in previous editions, but there doesn't seem to be any this year. If the site is not fully bilingual, I can translate stuff.

For the other leagues, I can't really tell much right now. I really need to research on that, as I usually don't pay much attention to junior leagues below the CHL. I doubt I'll have much time this week, having a couple of exams to prepare and some poorly timed work shifts, but as soon as I can, I'll get back to it. By the way, what's the "lowest" level you're interested in? I mean, I'm familiar with the Pee-Wee tournament of Jonquiere and know bits about that of Quebec (heck, I can find complete lists of participating teams and even rosters for several editions of the latter held in the 90s, provided I can get back that book I've left at my parents' house in Saguenay) and therefore could provide some info; I'm just not really sure what's the lowest age level of interest to you and worthy of being added on wikipedia (I reckon Pee-Wee is rather young for being a worthy encyclopedia addition... but on the other hand, both tournaments are international).

NHL team season articles[edit]

Re: WCHL vs. WOJHL[edit]

Hey, I've been doing some extensive research on the Southern Ontario Junior A Hockey League. For two seasons, 1968-69 and 1969-70, they were a renegade league called the Western Ontario Junior A Hockey League. I was reading that during at least one of those two seasons the champions of the WOJHL and the WCHL faced off in a National title game. Ever heard of this? If not, could you look into it... the WHL still exists, the SOJHL doesn't... lol. If you have, could you please shed some light? DMighton 22:39, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

It would appear that the WHL doesnt consider this a very important event, as it was never mentioned in the WHL's history articles (which havent been brought back online since whl.ca was redesigned), and the media guide makes no mention of it. The Flin Flon Bombers website makes no mention if it either. It might have just been something done between the two teams without the involvement of the leagues? There is little for Western colleges that I have seen. I've been meaning to build articles for some organizations (ie: Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference), but have gotten focussed on my NHL seasons and some general maitenence tasks. As far as the Mount Royal College Cougars go, the AJHL team and the ACAC team are the same. The Cougars left the AJHL to rejoin the ACAC. Resolute 23:45, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Re: CIS hockey[edit]

I am actually not certain how to handle university and college teams. Personally, I would start small, and see how the article grows. ie, the Calgary Dinos. That article really needs to be expanded to include all of the althletics the U of C participates in. If it grows large enough to split out an article specifically for hockey, I would do that, and if that split is large enough to warrant a split between mens and womens hockey, split again.

The CCAA isnt very well organized that I can tell. The ACAC's website shows many gaps in time where there was no national tournament. Looks like for collegiate hockey/sports, your best bet is simply to use whatever the provincial governing body has. Resolute 06:48, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Devon, I am so sorry if my comments in my edit summary seemed insulting. I know you've been working like crazy on a lot of the jr hockey stuff, and have done an amazing job. Sadly, the amount of info on some of the junior hockey articles is "lame" but that's because it's hard to find, or there's just never enough time to get them all done adequately. You've done a lot to set up the structure for the leagues, have created tonnes of stubs, and fleshed out a lot of articles too. My comment about "lame" was more an expression of frustration about how much there is still to do. I am sorry. Thanks for letting me know how it came off. I appreciate that you did. Metropolitan Montreal Junior Hockey League[edit]

Have you heard of the defunct Metropolitan Montreal Junior Hockey League? I am researching NHL alumni for the Verdun Maple Leafs, the Laval Saints and the Saint-Jérôme Alouettes. I'm currently in Hamilton, but I was involved in Junior A in Ottawa during the mid-90s. I've also lived out west, so I've followed some of those leagues as well. Western Major Junior Championship[edit]

We don't seem to have an article for the Monseigneur Athol Murray Trophy which was the Western Canada Major Junior Championship post 1970... until I do not know when. Any thoughts? DMighton 13:11, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

I honestly don't think it was ever awarded. Hockey Canada's history section of their by-laws guide [3] says that the Athol Murray Trophy was to be awarded to the champions of Western Canada - however since there is only one league in Western Canada, the President's Cup (WHL) seems to have taken precidence. It's companion trophy, the George Richardson Memorial Trophy appears to have no longer been awarded after 1972, suggesting the concept was abandoned when the Memorial Cup tournament went to three teams. I can't confirm it, but I doubt the trophy was ever actually awarded. Its concept might make a decent mention on the Hockey Canada article in a section regarding the realignment of junior hockey in 1970 though. Resolute 16:32, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Also, in 1970, the WCHL was only in the Prairies. Perhaps the CAHA had anticipated that a fourth major-junior league would appear in BC. That plan would have been scuttled when the WCHL expanded to Vancouver and Victoria in 1971. Resolute 17:04, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

1970-71[edit]

Hey, I just spent a couple of hours at the library last night, looking at the OSST's lead up to and the start of the 1970-71 hockey season. The Central Junior B league was comprised of Owen Sound, Collingwood, Waterloo, the Kitchener Ranger B's (apparently still known as the Greenshirts the year before -- I'll check to make sure) and the Preston Raiders. They played a home-and-away interlocking schedule with the teams of the Western league -- Strathroy Rockets, Sarnia Bees, Stratford Warriors, St. Marys Lincolns and London Squires. The recap of the previous season was particularly interesting because it said Preston had been an expansion team the year before and also that the Guelph CMC's had lost in the league final to Collingwood, which was then beaten by Stratford in the OHA quarters. So it seems that Guelph was a Central league club in 69-70.

Other happenings in the fall of 1970 -- the local Junior C loop was going by the "Central" name and, near as I can tell, had five teams. Hanover was already being called the Barons. The other teams were the Kitchener Greenshirts, Mildmay-Teeswater Otters, New Hamburg Hahns and Milverton (nickname n/a at this point). And the OHA Intermediate C league started this year too.

Stratford OHA team names[edit]

What do you know about names of OHA hockey teams from Stratford, Ontario? I wrote most the the articles for the Stratford Midgets and the Stratford Kroehlers, but I'm sure how the history of this Stratford Kist or Stratford Canadians fits into the grand scheme. The Soo Legion was a AAA Midget team during the 80s and 90s and was changed to the current-day Soo North Stars somewhere around 1996 I believe. To the best of my knowledge, Soo Legion was never Junior team, but I may be wrong. I can look into that. Measly pawn 03:19, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

I dont know what is going on but it does not look good for the league it looks like alot of things are hitting them all at once the Golden Jets webpage is down and they dont even update their own website and I am one of these people that thought this league would survive. Newmarket Redmen[edit]

In the book, The Memorial Cup Canada's National Junior Hockey Championship, authors Richard M. Lapp and Alec Macaulay mention on page 55, that the Newmarket Redmen became the Copper Cliff Redmen. Do you have other information? Flibirigit 23:15, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Well... it is possible... but... Copper Cliff is a suburb of Sudbury... what I do know is that prior to the 1971 realignment the Newmarket Redmen played in the Mid-Ontario Junior B Hockey League. In the 70s they moved to the Central Junior B Hockey League... and in 1972 they were renamed.

Is it possible that they were a different team from the Memorial Cup champion team.... but it is possible they are not. I am currently in the middle of a long... long... search for old Junior B standings... I have the Central back to 1979... Metro to 1988 and am currently reseaching... the WOHL back to 1974.... the Old Western I am just starting (1956-1968)... Mid-Western 1978-present, Golden Horseshoe 1977-present... EOJBHL 1999-present... TBJBHL 1999-Present.... and I will eventually move on to the Mid-Ontario (1960s and 70s) and Big 10 (1930s-1956). There is no way for me to tell until I have more of the old standings... but I was looking at the Newmarket, Ontario article and saw that it said the Redmen dated back to the 1920s... so I assumed, maybe wrongly, that they were the same team... it is possible that the Redmen is just a tradition serial team name... I think everyone agrees the semi-pro team did exist. But there is also the issue of whether its important enough to warrant its own article. John, I see what you are doing... and it is interesting... it is just that on league pages it is better just as a list.... too many tables can increase the loading time of a page ridiculously for slower users... also... too many tables creates overkill in my opinion... I like to just use a table for the logo/info box and standings... past that it kinda bugs me.... Re: Succession Boxes[edit]

Hey...Sorry about not dropping you a line there. My mistake, just was being a tad "bold" as they say here. Anyhow, the reason I edited it was for simplicity. I'm one of those random wikipedians who just goes about trying to make things look cleaner, and that's what I do with Project Ice Hockey (as you can see from any of my edits). If you look at the succession boxes for Stanley Cup winners (example below), they simply state the previous team to win it, the year in which the articled team won it, and the team who next won it. I personally see no need to link to the actual previous and future TOURNAMENT. Of course, a link to the tounament is needed for the articled team (to show which year they won), but as with almost any succession box, especially in sports, there isn't a need for the year to be displayed for the teams that are "sandwiching" the articled team

Example:

Preceded by Detroit Red Wings	Stanley Cup Champions 1998-99	Succeeded by New Jersey Devils

compared to what I did...

Preceded by Weyburn Red Wings	Royal Bank Cup Champions 2006	Succeeded by Aurora Tigers

Now I'm just wondering what to do about the 'Young Nats' team coached by Frost ... Would it be appropriate to add info about that third team to the Toronto Nationals article? I don't think the team was around for very long, but it did spawn at least 3 NHL players (Keefe, Danton, and Ryan Barnes). Also the Bob Goodenow connection, and notoriety of David Frost (sports agent) may all combine to make it all notable enough for its own article, but it would fit quite nicely into the existing article. BCHL infoboxes[edit]

Hey...Ya, I definately agree that we need to update them. I kind of want to make a BCHL specific template, something along the lines of what is seen with the teams in the NHL, AHL, etc. I was basically thinking of just taking those templates and switching some of the names for the awards and such. I went ahead and made a template for BCHL teams, one similar to those of AHL and NHL franchises. It can be found here. Let me know what you think. I like these templates because they state all the most important information, including championship wins, and look a lot "cleaner" and "newer" than just the plain hockey team template. It just seems a lot more vibrant to have these and they have been making AHL and NHL articles a lot better, in my opinion. Anyhow, let me know. BCHL teams definately need an upgraded template, so hopefully we can come to some sort of consensus before initiating them into articles. – Nurmsook 17:48, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
