Hi, my name is Branko Popovic. I am a drummer based in Boston, originally from Serbia. I started playing drums at the age of six. During my elementary and high school years, I played with many rock bands from my hometown area. At the age of seventeen I met the master teacher Miroslav Karlovic, whom I started taking lessons from. Ever since that time, Karlovic remains to be my mentor and supervisor.

From 2004 until 2007 I was a member of The Belgrade Dixieland Orchestra with whom I recorded three cds: Moon over Bourbon Street Jazz Museum What a Dixie We Have In Gospel In 2006, along with my colleague Dimitrije Vasiljevic, I founded a jazz-fusion band ,,Neo Instinct”. That year, I took my audition for Berklee College of Music in Dublin, received a scholarship, and in the Fall of 2007, I moved to Boston and began my studying at Berklee. Since 2007 to present days, I have been studying at Berklee with some of the best teachers in the world: Ralph Peterson, Kim Plainfield, Jon Hazilla, Yoron Israel, Kenwood Dennard, Dave Dicenso, Jamey Haddad, Mark Walker, Berthram Lehmann, Skip Hadden, Steve Wilkes, Mike Mangini, Casey Scheuerell, Dave Weigert, Eguie Castrillo, Mike Ringquist, Rod Morgenstein, Terry Lyne Carrington.

During my years of studying at Berklee, I have created my own style of playing which has been based on experimenting with Balkan odd rhythms, and building them up to the highly complex odd rhythmic structures, such as 17/8, 27/8, 29/8, 33/8 etc… In the spring of 2010, as a leader, he founded his own trio with Dimitrije Vasiljevic on piano and Chris Cabrera on electric bass.
