From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I am currently scribbling away frantically at my thesis.

Welcome. This is a temporary page, for as long as I remain on wikibreak.

I used to be a regular contributor to Wikipedia, and I've created 438 articles in the English Wikipedia so far, not to mention well over 200 in the French Wikipedia. My primary reason for contributing was, I think, the impulse that "this is something people should know about". I enjoy spreading knowledge that I find interesting. I don't think I've attracted much attention within Wikipedia; I'm not a member of any Wikipedia community. I simply write articles, creating some and contributing to others.

Sadly, contributing to Wikipedia is time-consuming. I have hundreds of pages to cram into my doctoral thesis over the next few months. And, since Wikipedia is so addictive, I've finally had to impose the Wikibreak enforcer upon myself.

At present, I set it to expire at the start of every month. I will probably reset it continuously for a fresh month over the next few months.

Wikipedia is a phenomenal achievement, of which its contributors can be proud. But it remains a never-ending project. It will always be incomplete, imperfect - by which I mean that there will always be improvements and fresh articles to contribute. When I come back, I intend to write more about the bilateral relations of Pacific countries with the wider world, and I may also add more to the article on the History of Samoa (it's much shorther than its French counterpart, and the section on the 19th century is far too brief; 19th century Samoa was fascinatingly complex). Of course, I must resist the urge to fix everything right now. It can wait. Those three words are true, but difficult to live by.

In the immortal words of someone I've forgotten: I shall return.
