Fozil Fayzrahmonovich Amirov (January 26, 1914 - July 7, 1979, Tashkent) - Uzbek-Soviet medical scientist, surgeon, specialist in topographical anatomy. He received the Doctor of Medicine degree in 1960, and then the Professor degree in 1961. In 1974, Fozil Amirov was awarded the title of Honored Scientist of the Uzbekistan SSR, the USSR State Prize.

Biography[edit]

Fozil Amirov was born on January 26, 1914 in Tashkent. After graduating from high school with excellent grades, he entered the Tashkent Medical Institute[1]. He successfully graduated from there in 1938. When World War II broke out, he worked as a leading surgeon in an evacuee hospital in 1943 and was awarded the Order of the Red Star.

He took part in the liberation of Hungary and Romania as a leading army surgeon in 1944-1946. In 1945, Fozil Amirov was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree, the medals "For the defence of Stalingrad" and "For the victory over Germany".

Medical scientist in 1947-1957 in the position of deputy dean of the faculty of medicine and dentistry, since 1949 - candidate of science. He defended his candidate's thesis on the topic "Pathogenesis of open pneumothorax and the mechanism of action of vagosympathetic blockade in it". In 1959, he defended his doctorate degree in "Experimental Defects and Bronchoplasty".

In 1954, Amirov was awarded the "For Labour Valour" medal. In 1956, he was awarded the Honorary Label of the Supreme Council of the Uzbek SSR. Later, in 1970, he was awarded the "For Courageous Work" medal.

Lung diseases surgeon, professor received the title of meritorious scientist in Uzbekistan SSR in 1971. In 1974, he was awarded the State Prize of the USSR "for the development of reconstructive operations on the trachea and bronchi".

Fozil Amirov in 1966-1979 - head of the department of operative surgery with topographical anatomy of TMA. In 1959-1967, he was the chairman of the methodological section on optimization of the educational process at the institute. - He was the vice-rector for scientific affairs of TMA[2].

He is also a participant of international scientific conferences in London (1959), Rome (1960), Berlin (1966).

Famous doctor Amirov died in 1979 in Tashkent. He was buried in the Minor cemetery.

Scientific activity[edit]

Professor of Medical Sciences F. Amirov is the author of 143 scientific articles on various aspects of bronchology, pain relief during trachea and bronchial plastic surgery, development of reconstructive and restorative operations on the respiratory tract.

Methods of reconstructive operations on the respiratory tract have been developed.

In 1962, Fozil Fayzrahmonovich published the monograph "Trachea and Bronchoplasty" and introduced these operations to the surgical practice. Academicians A.P.Bakulev, P.A.Kupriyanov, B.V.Petrovsky, A.A.Vishnevsky, L.K.Bogush, E.N.Meshalkin highly appreciated his work. He gave a speech at more than 30 All-Union Republican congresses and conferences. 6 doctoral theses and 20 candidate theses were defended under his guidance.
