Question[edit]

Would anyone object to my changing

"We, Wikipedians, dislike fragmented discussions."

to something along the lines of

"I prefer to keep discussions unfragmented."

I don't know that there's a prevailing consensus on where people choose to reply, so the former seems a bit presumptious. --Sugarbutty 09:21, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, although it seems to me that the majority of users prefer to keep discussions in one place, not all users do. Also because of the way the sentence is written, with the commas, its meaning is ambiguous so I don't know if that was the intended meaning or not - I prefer your version. The sentence has been in the template since the template was created in 2006, however I wouldn't object to it being changed. --Snigbrook (talk) 09:50, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Right, ok, I'll give it a go, see how it goes down. Cheers. --Sugarbutty 10:33, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

text change proposal[edit]

{{editprotected}} I'd like to propose a slight change to the text, replacing "do that" with "start a new discussion". I'm concerned that users will be encouraged to create a new heading every time they post a comment, even if it's part of the same discussion. Dancter (talk) 17:59, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: Can you provide some examples where this is actually happening as a big problem?--Aervanath (talk) 08:59, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A big problem? I actually wasn't expecting any resistance on this. I don't really want to dig through revision histories to provide diffs. It'd be easier to just make my own header. Thanks, anyway. Dancter (talk) 10:55, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from A. di M., 6 March 2011[edit]

{{edit protected}} Just a nit-pick: the en dashes in “this same page–my talk page–as an effort” should be either spaced (“this same page – my talk page – as an effort”) or replaced with em dashes (“this same page—my talk page—as an effort”), per WP:DASH and Dash#En dash versus em dash. Either would be OK with me, though I'd personally choose the spaced en dashes.

Done. This is also one of my nit-picky pet peeves. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:32, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 27 November 2018[edit]

I would like to request that the following be changed:

"please do it at the bottom as a new section, for better formatting."

to instead read,

"please do it at the bottom as a new section for better formatting."

I don't see why the comma between "section" and "for" is there. Commas may be used to set off appositive phrases, but in this case the comma just separates one prepositional phrase from the other two. If I'm missing something here, let me know! Paper Luigi TC 08:40, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I added a comma after "bottom", since "as a new section" is an appositive phrase. I hope that is acceptable to you; it looked like the best option to me. Thanks for pointing out this grammar error. – Jonesey95 (talk) 10:45, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine with me! Thanks for your quick reply to this long-overlooked grammatical error. Paper Luigi TC 12:34, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
