Template change proposed at VPT[edit]

I have proposed a change to this template at the Village Pump. Please comment there, this notice is only to draw attention to the central discussion. Protonk (talk) 19:03, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've implemented a "test version" of this. All the images that the template is on are now in dated maintenance categories, although the cats themselves are redlinked. It could take awhile for the job queue to fully account for this. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 20:00, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Name of template[edit]

Shouldn't the name of this template be Template:Puf? Considering this encompasses all media files, not just images. — ξxplicit 21:42, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Minor fixes[edit]

editprotected Could someone move the documentation to the /doc and implement the version from the sandbox. There are some minor formatting and wording fixes in there, e.g. only categorizing file pages and some easier coding. Thanks, --The Evil IP address (talk) 19:25, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Amalthea 19:32, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
By the way though, have a look at Cat handler for category control. Useful with templates where the categorization decision isn't as clear cut as here. Amalthea 19:35, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Date error[edit]

Between here and Pufc something was change so that the statement found inside this template ("Add the following to the file's caption(s) ) no longer works. If you switch the date around " it dose work. Someone needs to make a change ether here or at Pufc to fix this issue. I would suspect that Pufc should be fixed since all the old Pufc taged images don't work anymore.--ARTEST4ECHO talk 17:36, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks... wish I could have spotted that. --After Midnight 0001 15:25, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I don't exactly understand why the "date" parameter was added, but despite an apparent attempt at backwards compatibility the old "log" parameter doesn't work right. If I add to an image description page, which is the form I'm used to using, this template tells me to add to the caption. But this breaks, because "2010 October 29" is apparently not a recognized date format for the parser function. Can someone please explain, as precisely as possible, exactly what the goal has been with the recent parameter changes? How are things supposed to be done now? Is the "log" parameter deprecated, and if so, why? —Bkell (talk) 02:28, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This problem still exists I believe. --Muhandes (talk) 01:21, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Should hopefully be resolved now, thanks. Amalthea 01:02, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

editprotected: help=off parameter[edit]

editprotected In the sandbox, I have added a help=off parameter, for use when nominating with Twinkle – it hides most of the usage text, leaving only the caption-tagging bit (which Twinkle does not do – apparently bots do that now). Please sync with the sandbox. — This, that, and the other (talk) 06:01, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Clarify the category if no date is provided:

Replace

with

— Train2104 (talk • contribs • count) 13:41, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That will categorise as Category:Possibly unfree files from from unknown date. Are you sure about that? --Redrose64 (talk) 16:12, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's intended. Better than Category:Possibly unfree files from. Just create the category and G8 the old one. — Train2104 (talk • contribs • count) 18:02, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I should have been clearer: the word "from" is in there twice. Did you mean Category:Possibly unfree files from unknown date? --Redrose64 (talk) 18:09, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I didn't realize that. — Train2104 (talk • contribs • count) 18:11, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done but I used WP:CSD#C2 because it wasm't dependent on a nonexistent page. --Redrose64 (talk) 18:20, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

does not work on wiki commons[edit]

The template does not work on wikipedia commons. How do we put the puf tag there then? -⊾maine12329⊿ talk 06:22, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Navigate to right under the image to where it says this file is from Wikimedia Commons, and click the link that says description page there. Then you will be on Commons. Then on the left under the toolbox, click nominate for deletion. If you are not signed in on Commons, it will perform the edits under your IP. Magog the Ogre (tc) 19:03, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The link on the Wikimedia Commons page is Tools, not 'toolbox'. -Lopifalko (talk)

Can you change the Puf template to this?

Not done: We should probably get a consensus for the change in wording before we make the edit. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 02:15, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
