2nd parameter[edit]

I've added a second parameter for ranges. JIMp talk·cont 09:42, 10 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

3rd parameter needed[edit]

Clearly, the most intuitive target for a link "2013" is the article 2013, not the article 2013 NFL season. Thus this template currently makes it impossible for editors to create a link consistent with the guideline WP:EGG. The template should be modified to support an optional link label as the 3rd parameter, such that during {{NFL Year|1999||the 1999 season}} would produce "during the 1999 season". If the 3rd parameter were omitted, the template would work as it does today, so the change would not affect existing transclusions.

We wouldn't want to link to the article 2013 from this template as year articles are never germane to the articles on the template per WP:YEARLINK ... but, anyway, what if all three parameters are used? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimp (talkcontribs) 02:08, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jimp: I didn't mean to suggest that this should link to the article 2013. My point was that (1) per WP:EGG, link targets should be predictable, and (2) the only predictable link target for "2013" is 2013. Not 2013 NFL season. Editors should be given the option to avoid that problem without abandoning the use of this template.
what if all three parameters are used? The template doc would advise not to code all three, so editors who read the doc would not do that. Then the doc would state that either parameter 2 or parameter 3 would be ignored if they do. The choice of which parameter to ignore really wouldn't matter, as this would be a coding error that wouldn't stand very long if editors were paying attention to the result in the rendered page.
I'm aware that many editors don't care about WP:EGG considerations in linking, even if they are aware of EGG; nevertheless, it's a guideline that has community consensus and should be observed in templates. ―Mandruss  00:28, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Change "Seahakws" to "Seahawks" to resolve typo and align with Template:Seahawks season. UW Dawgs (talk) 13:36, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To editor UW Dawgs: there is no misspelling of "Seahawks" in this template. Check the page where you noted the misspelling and change the entry in this template on that page. If you cannot edit that page, let me know and I will take care of it for you. Thank you for your input! P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 15:14, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
