Usage[edit]

Deleted articles[edit]

The vast majority of talk pages associated with PROD'd or CSD'd articles are not worth keeping. Only an infrequent talk page is encountered that might be validly kept as an exception to WP:CSD#G8, which reads in part "except for deletion discussion that is not logged elsewhere."

Redirects[edit]

There is a behavior among some editors to insist that talk pages for redirects point to the target article's talk page. However, there are cases where such might not be desirable, particularly redirects that have potential expandability into articles (e.g. redirects to sections; redirects to subtopics). Also, some redirects are of interest to particular WikiProjects (e.g. redirects from surname of interest to Wikipedia:WikiProject Anthroponymy). For this reason, it would be prudent to add {{KeptTalk}} to redirect-associated talk pages if it is desirable to keep them as talk pages rather than being converted to redirects themselves.

Syntax[edit]

{{ KeptTalk | keepreason=<reason> }}

Transclude[edit]

For now, the template should be transcluded so that articles can be easily 'backed out' en masse should this template meet with deletion. If the template comes into wide use and/or stabilizes, subst'ing would be sensible.

Examples[edit]

It might be good for editors to take a look at the few talk pages that are tagged with this template to get a sense of what editors consider "worth keeping". The tastes of editors will no doubt be wide-ranging, but the criteria for inclusion (exception to CSD#G8) is clear in principle, muddy in practice.

Origin[edit]

I searched through the templates we have available and did not find anything that would be used to informatively tag talk pages that had been preserved after WP:PROD or WP:CSD processes. The frequency of such cases is quite low, but certainly non-zero and I felt it would be useful to have a template to help for three things: provide an explanation for the retention of the talk page; provide a speed bump to persons who might otherwise delete the talk page via WP:CSD#G8; provide a way to identify the group of all such talk pages (this would only happen if broad acceptance and use of the template or a variant came in the future).
