Renaming the template[edit]

It could be moved to a more generic name, like Template:Infobox sailing competition, so that it can be used for all sailing events rather than just the America's Cup.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 07:48, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If no one is opposed, I will be moving this template shortly.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 09:18, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't necessarily object but, the template was created for the several America's Cup races and wasn't intended to be used elsewhere. The documentation reflects that specificity so if you move the template to a more generic name, you must also change the documentation to reflect that. Can you give an example where this template might be used?

Well, there are over 60 pages in the Category:Sailing races but there isn't any infobox for sailing competitions in general, so there are several pages on which the template could potentially see use.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 09:10, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Those categories that contain individual race articles would be good candidates for a race competition infobox template tailored to the specific requirements of that race and those articles. Instead of making this infobox template generic and suitable for all race-series competition articles perhaps creation of infobox templates appropriate to the race-series competition articles is the better solution.
I guess that means that I've changed position and think that this template should not be moved.

Creating a separate infobox for every single race competition is really not a good idea, it would require more maintenance to have the same result as using one template. The fields of this template ("defender country", "challenger club", "location", "coordinates" etc.) are not so specific that they can't be used for other competitions. You changed your mind once, so I hope you'll change it again.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 11:43, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I agree with the idea that separate infoboxes for the different competitions requires more maintenance. I learned long ago that breaking large coding tasks into numerous small functions made my code more reliable and easier to maintain and upgrade.

Previous and next edition[edit]

Can anyone please add it to the template? --Kasper2006 (talk) 16:32, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kasper2006 I have just added this before seeing this comment as I couldn't navigate between pages easily. Not really a fan of these infobox though I would prefer the sailing competition infobox to have a couple of AC specific fields --Yachty4000 (talk) 21:06, 20 Feb 2021 (UTC)
