Reason for using "border-bottom" style[edit]

I see from a comment in the template that this style is used in order to indicate that the abbreviation attribute is used. Is this still a valid rationale? It's appearing on links that don't have an abbreviation defined, and it makes it look like the links have something special about them. XAM2175 ^(T) 02:24, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
