Font size[edit]

I have no particular preference whether or not the age should be displayed in small size or not, but I think this template should be consistent with {{Birth date and age}}, so for now, I'm removing the <small> tags. If there's a consensus to reinstate the <small> tags, I have no problem with that. --Badmotorfinger 19:55, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Modification?[edit]

Can this template be modified so that you have the option of having the date displayed as either January 1, 2007 or 1 January 2007? The reason I ask is that some articles have it one way in the infobox for the other dates and some have it the other way. I've been using the {{subst:age}} template for the ones that have the date as 1 January 2007 but it'd be nice to use just one template. -- Mufka ^(user) ^(talk) ^(contribs) 19:55, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can this template be renamed to "US death date and age", in line with "Euro death date and age". The current name implies that it is the default, which it certainly isn't, not for an international site such as Wikipedia. --Pete 22:36, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was brief a discussion related to this at Template talk:Euro birth date#Suggested move. Following that I added an optional argument to this template. If you append "|df=yes" the default order of the day and month will be day first. This is the same as if you had typed a raw date of [[24 February]] instead of [[February 24]]. This should address some of the issues raised in this thread. I added this to the following templates:

* Template:Birth date

* Template:Birth date and age

* Template:Death date

* Template:Death date and age

I when I did this I didn't realized this was being discussed here. I hope nobody minds my change. This change makes the Euro templates redundant as one set of templates can now be used for both day first and month first default date formats. -- Patleahy 08:24, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Newline after pp-template noinclude[edit]

The newline at the start of this template causes the results of this template to appear incorrect in tables:

Day first option[edit]

The purpose of this change is to allow writers have the same control over the default day month order when using these templates as they have when using raw dates. Non line breaking space[edit]

Can someone please add a comma (,) in between of month day and year? Ex: February 24, 1993(1993-02-24) (aged 51) becomes February 24, 1993 (aged 51). Thank you!

Aged[edit]

I also agree, "aged" is incorrect. "age xx" is the accepted forumulation -- it's shorthand for "at the age of xx", while the other would be shorthand for ... what? "he/she had aged xx years"? Add wikilink to birth date[edit]

I recommend we add wikilinking to the birth date. The template currently wikilinks the death date but not the birth. I also recommend we transclude the birth date in the template.--Kumioko 12:30, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Use when only birth year is known[edit]

Could this be modified so that if the last two arguments are missing (Month and Day of birth) it still works. I know that the age would be approximate, but the template could add a ≈ linked to Approximation before the number.
So for someone born in 1890 and died on 1970-10-22 ({{Death date and age|1970|10|22|1890}}) we would get (aged ≈80) as the note. —MJBurrage^(T•C) 19:06, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An optional parameter, df, can be set to "yes" to display the day before the month. This is primarily used in articles about people from parts of the world where the day precedes the month in a date.

Example: {{Death date and age|1993|2|24|1941|4|12|df=yes}} returns "24 February 1993 (aged 51)"

When you add the parameter "df=yes", it is supposed to put the day before the month. They are both the same (I have bolded). The Windler talk 06:04, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
