Usage[edit]

{{subst:cfm2 | from category | to category | optional Cfd section name | text= Your reason(s) for the name change. ~~~~}}

Example[edit]

{{subst:cfm2|From name|To name|Umbrella|text='''Merge''', it covers a broader range of topics. ~~~~}} creates this:

Umbrella[edit]

Purpose[edit]

Used similar to {{afd2}} to simplify the listing on WP:CFD of a category with {{Cfm}}. See how to use this page for overall instructions.

Discussion[edit]

Broken?[edit]

{{subst:cfm2|Hillsong Youth Alive albums|Hillsong albums|Hillsong|text='''Merge''', Your reason(s) for the proposed merge. ~~~~}} (taken from the output of {{cfm}} with a section name argument). Should create a CFM section called "Hillsong", but instead output:

Category:Hillsong Youth Alive albums[edit]

Suggest merging Category:Hillsong Youth Alive albums to Category:Hillsong albums
Nominator's rationale: Hillsong

Template-protected edit request on 22 July 2016[edit]

Please replace merging to with merging with as the latter is more proper english.

Pppery (talk) 21:24, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

While it may be more proper English, I believe the wording is "merge to" rather than "merge with" because "merge to" is more specific that the destination article is the second, and there's no ambiguity which category is the one that remains. Not done as proposed. Perhaps "merging into" may be better phrasing. See the precedence with {{Merge}}, {{Merge to}}, {{Merge from}}. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 21:48, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Merging into is fine with me also. Pppery (talk) 22:35, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
 Done - {{Merge to}} etc. use "merged into", and that wording adds clarity, as opposed to adding ambiguity as "merged with" would. Godsy(TALKCONT) 07:28, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved this back to "to". The bots that process merges are currently coded to recognize the "CATEGORY to CATEGORY" command, not a "CATEGORY into CATEGORY" command. Having it "into" rather than "to" therefore creates a situation where we have to rely on administrators to know that they have to edit the "into" into a "to" on the bot process queue page. Even if admins know that it needs to be changed, they might forget to change it. The change has needlessly complicated closing these types of CFDs.
