Amaré -> Amar'e[edit]

Please update the link for Amare Stoudemire to Amar'e Stoudemire - His name on the Suns/NBA site has been changed per his request this season: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/amare_stoudemire/bio.html --Mosmof (talk) 01:40, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I regret to disagree, but the logic behind that is flawed. If Stoudemire's first name has recently (read: as of 2008) been requested to be changed from Amare to Amar'e, then in 2002, at the time he was drafted, his name had obviously not yet been adjusted to that spelling. It's anachronistic to be displayed that way. For the same reason Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is referred to as Lew Alcindor in the 1969 NBA Draft template. Tariq Abdul-Wahad as Olivier Saint-Jean in the 1997 NBA Draft template. How about the person selected two picks ahead of Stoudemire? --Downwards (talk) 05:48, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, my request was just to avoid a redirect within the Amar'e Stoudemire article - what was happening was that the "Amar'e" article would link to the redirect within the template, which would link back to the "Amar'e" article. I agree with the historical accuracy issue, so it should be piped and entered as [[Amar'e Stoudemire|Amare Stoudemire]] (without the accent over the "e"). Does that make sense? --Mosmof (talk) 20:45, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it sure does. Can we change it, or have it changed? Thanks.--Downwards (talk) 21:27, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think the larger issue is why is this template protected? — X96lee15 (talk) 21:38, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so the template is unprotected (well semi-protected). But now I'm wondering if his name should be changed. Looking at his article, it says his name has always been Amar'e, but the media has always spelled it incorrectly...so it's not really a "name change". — X96lee15 (talk) 21:47, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from 198.102.153.2, 11 April 2011[edit]

Please remove the |basestyle= line, so this template will match the others in Category:National Basketball Association Draft navbox templates. Thank you. 198.102.153.2 (talk) 23:23, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Template:2002 NBA DraftTemplate:2002 NBA draft – The word "draft" is not a proper noun like the current title implies. All other templates in Category:National Basketball Association draft navigational boxes follow the "XXXX NBA draft" convention and this template is the only exception since it is protected for some undisclosed reason. – Sabbatino (talk) 08:47, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. Could have placed it at the non-controversial requests. --Gonnym (talk) 11:38, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
