Ocypode cursor[edit]
- ... that the crab Ocypode cursor (pictured) can be found along the coasts of the eastern Atlantic Ocean and eastern Mediterranean Sea, but not in the western Mediterranean Sea in between?

- Article has nearly 1800 characters prose
- Brand new, nominated about five days later
- Image is freely licensed, AND featured on Commons!
- Cited inline, sources appear to be of sufficient reliability
- QPQ not necessary
- Hook is interesting and sufficiently brief (about 185 characters), supported by ref
- AGF on Hydrobiologia (my access only goes back to 1997)
Issues:
- There is a spot of close paraphrasing in #Description: compare "a tuft of setae (bristles) extending from the tips of the eyestalks" with "a tuft of hair-like setae extending from the tips of the eyes". Any chance of rephrasing this? Its short enough that it isn't a significant issue.
- I would assert so, yes. There are only so many ways of describing a tuft of setae that extend from the eyes. --Stemonitis (talk) 07:30, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
- Article and WoRMS has "Ocypode ippeus Olivier, 1804", but the FAO source says 1807. Is this just a mistake by FAO?
- I assume so. The FAO source is rather older, and has been subject to fewer revisions since publication. WoRMS should be up-to-date, not least as it includes the outputs from a number of recent conspectuses, including the very authoritative Systema Brachyurorum. --Stemonitis (talk) 07:30, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

- WoRMS shows the crab on a Cyprus? postage stamp, want to include material on that?
- Um, ... no. Lots of things have been pictured on stamps; why would that be considered significant? (We can't even legitimately show the stamp, because it's not available under a free licence.) --Stemonitis (talk) 07:30, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
- Also, when did the name change from Cancer cursor to Ocypode cursor?
- Good question. It doesn't appear to have occurred in Weber (1795), who only lists O. ceratophthalma, O. quadrata and "O. rhombea" (= O. quadrata). It was already in Ocypode (Ocypode) by the time of Fauna Japonica (1830), but nomenclatural issues around Ocypode are rather complex, and without a definite statement from a reliable source, I think it's best not to speculate. --Stemonitis (talk) 07:30, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
