- Comment: We do not normally call dead people "late". If we did, it would probably be one of the most common Wikipedia words. I doubt we should call Chavez "late"; he is no more "late" than Mahatma Ghandi or Cleopatra. Surtsicna (talk) 21:15, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

- Using Cleopatra as an example was hardly mature now was it. I typically use the word "late" to describe somebody who has passed away relatively recently, not thousands of years ago. Go away.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 15:49, 31 May 2013 (UTC)
to ALT1. The fact that you use it does not mean that you should use it. The word "late" implies respect for the dead person and is a euphemism (much like "passed away") that can (and should be) replaced with plain, neutral and accurate words - if necessary at all. Your nonobjective estimation of whether or not someone died "relatively recently" or not is hardly a reliable criterion. Is Pope John Paul II "late"? Is Mother Theresa "late"? What about Kurt Cobain and Kim Il-sung? Why isn't Lina Ron "late"? In this case, it is far from necessary to point out that Chavez is dead. Besides, he obviously was not "late" when he said that. Your incredibly rude behaviour is not something I am accustomed to seeing at DYK, but I suppose there is a first time for everything. I only wonder what I did to deserve it, i.e. if I ever stepped on your toe before. Surtsicna (talk) 13:05, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

While quite ridiculous, Surtsicna does have a point. See WP:PEACOCK – somewhat relevant. I suggest dropping "late" and using "former" or just calling him "Hugo Chavez".
