Holger Gilbert-Jespersen[edit]

Created by SusunW (talk). Nominated by Gerda Arendt (talk) at 21:54, 25 May 2015 (UTC).

  • If find the hook's use of the phrase the player confusing -- is that Nielsen? So he's a composer and performer? EEng (talk) 08:12, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
I thought if I say "he" that might be misunderstood as Nielsen, - what would you say to make sure it is the flutist, but avoiding the word as some would prefer flautist, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:12, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
What we want to express is that Nielsen liked the playing of all five players of the Wind Quintet premiere so much that he planned to dedicate a solo concerto to each one of them, - he started with the flute and added the Clarinet Concerto, then died. Do that in 200 chars which pretend to be about the flutist ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:46, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
ALT1 ... that Carl Nielsen wrote his Flute Concerto for Holger Gilbert-Jespersen who had played in the premiere of the composer's Wind Quintet?
  • Full review needed now that hook issues have been settled. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:29, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

New enough, long enough, no copyvio or plagiarism (I assume it was originally auto-translated from the Danish Wikipedia, but it has been massaged a bit since), neutral and QPQ done. Hook not cited (the third reference could cite part of it at least) The Danish article says he was a Knight of Dannebrogordenen which probably should be included in his list of honours, but I can't see that confirmed anywhere in my cursory search). Will be ready with ALT1 as soon as the citation is provided (what a business-like review; I feel quite grown up; [blows raspberry] there, that's better). Belle (talk) 00:53, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

For me, the ref (#2) says what the hook says but to be sure I added one from the concerto, now #3, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:44, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't know what happened there. The bit that isn't cited :"Nielsen .... dedicated it to him", isn't in the hook (it was late; I was reading sources in two languages; I can only think about glitter, makeup and ponies; take your pick of excuses). Passing it for DYK with ALT1 but please try to find a citation for the dedication. Belle (talk) 10:54, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the pass. - I don't know exactly what you mean "for the dedication": what greater dedication can there be than having a piece written specifically for a person? Seriously. - Several pieces of music were dedicated to me like that, but only one carries a printed "For G.A.", and no independent source will say that it means me. - We can probably look up if there is anything in the concerto score, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:13, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
