Deng Yuzhi[edit]

Created by Nvvchar (talk) and Rosiestep (talk). Nominated by Rosiestep (talk) at 04:06, 9 March 2016 (UTC).

  • The article looks good and is very readable. New enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. QPQ done. However, the hook is not the hookiest, and reading the article, we see she was one of many such advisors. How about focusing on her revolutionary ideas?
  • ALT1: ... that Chinese social and Christian activist Deng Yuzhi agreed to marry only if she could continue her studies, and when her husband broke his promise, she left him to return to high school?
  • ALT2: ... that although she espoused feminist and revolutionary views, Deng Yuzhi's social activism grew out of her Christian faith? Yoninah (talk) 23:12, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Yoninah Thanks for the review. Both hooks are fine.01:32, 15 March 2016 (UTC)Nvvchar.
  • Thanks. Calling on new reviewer to approve ALT hooks. Yoninah (talk) 08:37, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
  • My preference is ALT1. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:04, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Mine too. Striking ALT2. Yoninah (talk) 14:37, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
Hook at 193 char/under maximum and is verified immediately following claim by Lee & Stefanowska, p 136. GTG SusunW (talk) 04:08, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Maybe I'm missing something, but I am unable to find "return to high school" in the article. The ref says that she returned to her studies. She could be studying on her own or might have hired a tutor to help her at home till she was admitted to Ginling. --PFHLai (talk) 01:06, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
  • OK. How about:
  • ALT3: ... that while still in school, Chinese social and Christian activist Deng Yuzhi decided to be an independent woman, remain unmarried, and live the life of a "new woman"? Yoninah (talk) 01:22, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the suggestion; this is fine. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:02, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
  • I think we are splitting hairs. She was in high school. She finished her high school studies. Whether she went to a school or studied on her own, the source says she continued her studies and then went to university. However, since Yoninah kindly provided another hook and Rosie is good with it, p. 136 of Lee confirms the info in ALT3. At 166 char is under the maximum. Reticking.
