Central Province, Zambia[edit]

Central Province, Zambia
Central Province, Zambia

Improved to Good Article status by Ssriram mt (talk) and Tdslk (talk). Nominated by Cwmhiraeth (talk) at 05:56, 11 October 2017 (UTC).

While I appreciate being credited, I just copy edited the article; the GA belongs to Ssriram mt. But since I've been tagged anyway, I'll quibble that the meteorological data are just for one location in the province, not the entire province, and it's a bit unclear to me whether it truly never rains there or if it's just quite rare. Either way, for my money, something about the Mulungushi Rock of Authority would be a more interesting factoid. Tdslk (talk) 00:19, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
Interesting Good article, on good sources, no copyvio obvious. The image is licenses but not specific in small size. So is the hook, not exciting, - anything else? Environment? 30% speaking Bemba? - A few questions regarding the article not for DYK, just quality):
  • Why mention red links in the lead?
  • What has the swamp image to do with history?
  • Do we have a source for the historic site there?
  • Why is Main:Wildlife under Culture? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:04, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: I have dealt with some of the points you raised but don't like to mess about with someone else's newly promoted GA, and suggest these alternative hooks. I don't want to wikilink to the Mulungushi Rock of Authority article in the hook because it is a disambiguation page. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:32, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for trying. "Without rainfall" is nothing sepecific. "is the site" - is that what we say when one specific place is within a whole province? Just my language question. The points for the article are not necessary for approval, but I hope the new GA gets better ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:02, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
thank you --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:44, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, and I added a link to the Rock of Authority to show that it is notable, but the link sends you to an unsourced paragraph on a semi-disambiguation page. If the nominator could add some cites to that paragraph, we could promote it to the main page; otherwise, a new hook is needed. Yoninah (talk) 20:04, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
  • I have added a couple of references to the semi-disambiguation page. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:51, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
thanks for that. How about splitting the bottom of the semi-dab to its own article, for clarity? I almost missed that it's there. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:10, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
I would support that. As I indicated above, I found this the most intriguing fact in the article, and it seems to be a pretty significant landmark in the country. Thanks, Yoninah, for making a page about it. Tdslk (talk) 04:02, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
Excellent. I have added it to the hook and your name to the credits. Now we just need someone else to approve the new article and someone else again to promote the hook to prep! Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:17, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
I can do it but not today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:51, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
Fine new article, on good sources, no copyvio obvious. Any image available? - Hook: I'd mention "birthplace of independence", thinking "historic rock" sounds too harmless. Article: I understand that the most important thing about "Inselberg" (kopje) is nor "small, rocky", but "isolated" or "singular" or what? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:56, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the review. Unfortunately, I can't locate a free image. I changed the definition of kopje, thanks. Is this the alt you're looking for?
  • ALT4: ... that the Mulungushi Rock of Authority, known as "the birthplace of Zambian independence", is located in the Central Province of Zambia? Yoninah (talk) 17:28, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
yes, thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:16, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
