Recent Changes[edit]

Humus... I don't mean this in a bad way at all, but you've read MoS:DAB, right? Don't get me wrong; the page looks fine, and I have my own preferences that the MoS doesn't share (I like periods at the end of entries, am okay with the occasional wiki-link in an entry, and prefer full sentences for entries without an article), but the version you used seems at great variance with the standard practices. The MoS describes better than I can why lots of bolding and wiki-links generally aren't necessary.

That said, this isn't a big issue, and if there's a good reason for wanting to keep it closer to how you had it before, go ahead and put it back. I also heartily agree with moving that stuff out of the other "Other meanings" on the main Zion page.

I'm not sure if that's quite the best capsule description of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, by the way. Saying it's a hoax implies something almost prankish, as opposed to simply "incorrect" or "fictional." I see it more as straight-up political invective, myself (obviously in reverse; rather than saying "The Jews are evil and here's why" they do "We're the Jews and we're evil and here's why"). Thanks for improving it. I prefer periods at the end of sentences myself. ←Humus sapiens ну? 21:27, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup tag[edit]

I added a {{disambig-cleanup}} tag which was removed with a note of "already clean." I'm going to put it back, but will give my reasons this time to avoid a revert war.

  • Many entries have multiple live links, in contravention of WP:MOSDAB
  • There is a link to a separate Mount Zion disamb page (good), but there are also several Mount Zion entries on this page (not so good)
  • Similarly, there is at least on Sion entry, in addition to the reference to that disamb page.
  • There's a typographical issue with "The Matrix" -- I will fix that one myself.

Although I agree with User:Mafmafmaf that this page looks/looked very clean for a tagged dab page, I tried to address your concerns in fixing, and additionally removed the following entries:

  • all Mount Zions, which got merged with Mount Zion (dab)

For the following removed entries, a page may be created like Zion in popular culture, but they have no place on a dab page (too non-notable or are not jsut known as "Zion"):

  • Tool songwriter Maynard James Keenan mentions Zion in "Wings For Marie"
  • Among those who put to music Psalm 137:1 (“By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion”) were The Melodians and Boney M.
  • A song in the album "Five in the Black" by popular Asian group TVXQ.
  • "To Zion", a song from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, for her son, Zion.
  • The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, an anti-Semitic tract wherein a (fictional, though the text claims otherwise) Jewish conspiracy details their evil plans for world domination
  • Priory of Sion, a society created in 1956 by Pierre Plantard, and later given a fictional prehistory wherein it was founded during the Crusades
  • A Silver Mt. Zion, a Canadian Post-rock band

I had to break some rules with the "no links other than for dab entries" in the introduction line because the semantics of "Zion" may be of major importance to the reader. – sgeureka tc 22:04, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where does this fit in in the scheme of things at Wikipedia? --Ludvikus (talk) 19:55, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I don't understand your question. Are you suggesting that it be included as an option on this disambiguation page? I don't think that is necessary; it is highly unlikely that anyone who comes here after searching for "Zion" will want to go to Revisionist Zionism without going through the main article first. --Relata refero (disp.) 20:04, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • But Zionism is there. It has not been removed. Think more carefully, with all due repect: suppose someone reverse the word order? Also - for the ignorant or uninformed - "Zion, Zionism, what's the difference?" I hope you got my point. --Ludvikus (talk) 20:17, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think - with all due respect - you fail to appreciate to closeness of Zion and Zionism. --Ludvikus (talk) 20:20, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Furthermore, World Zionist Organization is on our list - do you want to remove that? Why? --Ludvikus (talk) 20:22, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I understand. I am not proposing removing anything. I merely think that adding Revisionist Zionism is probably unnecessary. --Relata refero (disp.) 21:30, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's absolute necessary. Nobody knows about this Article in the main space - and lack of DAB is one reason. I cannot understand at all why you would even think of removing it. --Ludvikus (talk) 21:34, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why would you think that nobody knows about that article? It is linked both on {{Jews and Judaism}} and {{Jews and Judaism sidebar}} which are transcluded on hundreds of articles. I don't see any need to include it or other varieties of Zionism here, they're prominently mentioned on the Zionism page. --Relata refero (disp.) 21:50, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But there are only three major kinds of Zionism: (1) Brandeis, (2) Waismann/ BenGurion, and (3) Jabotinsky. And the 3rd is being neglected in the DAB. --Ludvikus (talk) 23:52, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
With respect, that is not precisely true - there is also Isaac Kook's Zionism, for one - but the point is that when someone types "Zion" into a search box, they are not looking for an article on a specific kind of Zionism, but an overall article. See Wikipedia:Disambiguation for details. Zion could not stand as an alternate heading for Revisionist Zionism. --Relata refero (disp.) 05:25, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But - when the're interested in "Zion", they'll type in "Zionism". Have you ever heard of the Protocols of Zion? It is known that it is confused with "Zionism." As to Isaac Kook's Zionism - are you saying that it is/was a major form of zionism? That's not relevant here because you haven't given me any term to disambiguate: look here: "Isaac Kook's Zionism" - there's nothing you've given to DAB. --Ludvikus (talk) 11:27, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
PS: How do you explain that we do not even have an article on Isaac Kook, since you maintain his is a major form of Zionism? Did you mean "Abraham Kook"? He's responsible for religious Zionism. So I've added the latter as well to our list - good point. Thanks. --Ludvikus (talk) 11:31, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We absolutely don't need to disambiguate on this page between various forms of Zionism. This page disambiguates between various linguistic uses of Zion and its derivatives, not conceptually between various forms of Zionism. That is best done on the Zionism page, which is prominently linked from here. Relata refero (disp.) 11:59, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. The ourpose of a DAB page is to get people to the right place. And the words "Zion" and "Zionism" are so closely related that it is easy for the misinformed to confuse one for the other. However, since you feel so strongly about it - and have already Reverted my contribution, and no one else has bothered to comment, I will not engage in an Edit War with you. Nevertheless, I ask you to reconsider my points. Cheers! --Ludvikus (talk) 15:06, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • PS: Someone who is interested in what is contained in the various "Zionism (x)" or "(x) Zionism" WP Articles will not find what they are looking for when they merely type in "Zion." Unfortunately, you seem to fail to comprehend my point - so I give up and let your Reversion stand. --Ludvikus (talk) 15:13, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Zionites[edit]

What's this all about? It says Zionites are promoters of arts, music, etc., and that they were started "09/09". Is that a date? What does it mean? September, 2009, the month that just started? It links back to this same disambiguation page. What good is that? Unfree (talk) 12:46, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As User:Unfree notes, this entry self-redirected back to Zion (disambiguation). I'm moving it here to Talk until we have an article on this. (With some reliable references -- WP:RELIABLE) --
"Zionites, Believers of promoting love through music, community and charitable works. Established 09/09." -- Writtenonsand (talk) 19:49, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
