Date of birth[edit]

There are more ghits for 24 December 1917 than there are for 23 December 1918. There seem to be 2 camps, neither of which either acknowledge or is even aware of the existence of the other. Until now, hopefully. Can someone come up with something authoritative to settle this, such as a birth certificate? -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 07:42, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is still unresolved. Apparently the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography says:
  • Nelsova, Zara (1917-2002), cellist, was born on 24 December 1917 (though some sources give 23 December 1918) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, one of four children of Gregor Nelsov, a flautist... ].
That's a clear choice of the earlier date 1917, in the full knowledge that other sources differ.
Also her family name in this source is Nelsov, not Nelson or Katznelson. But this et al say her father's real name was Katznelson but he used Nelsov as a stage name, and his daughter followed suit but added the feminine ending -a.

Jewish[edit]

Most Wiki bios of Jews will indicate this part of their heritage next their national origin. Nelsova was Russian, but I'm also reasonably sure she was Jewish. This should be incorporated into the bio. David A. 2602:306:CFA2:58A0:F5EF:3266:F168:4A54 (talk) 12:29, 19 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
