Removal of Post-Liao information[edit]

I removed the following information about the history of Beijing after the Liao Dynasty because the article is about Youzhou the prefecture and not about Beijing the city per se. Subsequent history of Youzhou would require a much broader discussion of the histories of the various jurisdictions in the territory of Youzhou. Since the intro already discusses the modern-day provinces covered by ancient Youzhou, sufficient connection exists between the ancient jurisdiction and the modern day place names to give readers a sense of where Youzhou was and how big it was.

Changes to the name of Youzhou over subsequent periods are as follows:

Zhongdu Daxing Prefecture (中都大興府), during the Jin Dynasty (1115–1234)
Khanbaliq or Dadu (大都), during the Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368)
Beiping Prefecture (北平府), during the early Ming Dynasty (1368–1644)
Beijing Shuntian Prefecture (北京順天府), during the late Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty (1644–1911)
Jingzhao Difang (京兆地方), during the early Republican era (1912–1949)
Beiping City (北平市), during the Republican era
Beijing City (北京市), from 1949 until present

Move from "You Prefecture".[edit]

I noticed that the article title was moved under the argument that "article is about the prefecture, not the prefectural capital" back in 2017. Apart from the fact that -zhou does not necessarily have to refer to a prefecture capital, this is not consistent with the current titles for the other ancient provinces of China, which are still under either '-zhou' or 'province'. I also dislike translating zhou as 'prefecture'. Both 'province' and 'prefecture' may be applied rather haphazardly and arbitrarily in translations, but for clarity, we should try to be consistent. In practice, I find that English speakers like to think of prefectures as smaller or of more intermediate size. While Youzhou and other zhou were more of the size of prefectures during the Tang dynasty, this article spans the whole history of Youzhou, including when it's commonly translated as 'province', like during the Han dynasty. For consistency across all the articles on ancient Chinese provinces and towards common translations, this article title really should not remain at "You Prefecture". It should be either moved back to "Youzhou" or to "You Province". Sol Pacificus (talk) 23:24, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
