Galil/Galili[edit]

Which one is it now?? --BjKa (talk) 14:51, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also: What is this "Balashnikov" the article speaks of? --BjKa (talk) 14:20, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The correct transliterated spelling of his name appears to be Galili. Oddly, even his Hebrew Wikipedia page refers to him as Yisrael Galil in the page name, despite a reference linking to a picture of his grave marker, which says at the top (above the individual plaques for him and his wife) גלילי
בלשניקוב
i.e. "Galili" above "Balashnikov". See also מה ומי במלחמות עשרים וחמש השנים ("Who and What in the Twenty-Five Years Wars") by אפרים תלמי, Volume 2, Tel Aviv : Sifriyat Davar, 1975, which repeatedly refers to him as Yisrael Galili in passages like רובה־סער חדש "גליל", תוצרת התעשייה הצבאית, הוצג בפומבי. מפתחיו: יעקב ליאור וישראל גלילי (בלשניקוב). ("A new assault rifle, 'Galil', manufactured by Israel Military Industries, was presented publicly. Its developers: Yaakov Lior and Yisrael Galili (Balashnikov).") Balashnikov was presumably his surname before Hebraization. —Undomelin (talk) 09:04, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
