In my references to Win Parks I mentioned that when I met him he was a staff photographer with the Providence Journal. Fellow staff photographers at the time included John P. Callahan and Lawrence Millard. I would be very interested to learn the whereabouts of his wife, Mimi, in order to extend my belated condolences for the demise of Win Parks at such an early age.

I must correct my earlier comments regarding my experiences as a friend of Winfield Parks,Jr., a very important correction. His wife's name is Mitzi Parks, not Mimi. The years had blurred my memory.

Winfield and Mitzi Parks Circa 1954 to 1962[edit]

As with Mr. Wood my memory and timeline may be incorrect and I apologize for that. My family was a next door neighbor of the Parks in West Barrington, RI on Chapel Rd. The years were circa 1954 to 1962. My mom (June Thompson Nielsen) and Mitzi were very good friends and spent a good bit of time together around town and in the garden, especially when Win was traveling. When Win was in town I would spend time listening to his stories and looking at his photographs as well as his collection from his world travels. I was young, 8 to 10 when visiting with him. I believe it was during this time that he and Mitzi devoiced, as things came to an end for me and did not know why. I do recall that Win took an interest in photographing my younger sister Lynn and I have a number of those photographs as well as his America Cup photos. Some of my sister's photos were published in Life magazine and the Providence Journal. My guess that would have been somewhere between 1958 to 1960, just not absolutely sure. I have always reflected on my time knowing Win and also say (as Mr. Wood said) he left use too soon... He had a lot more adventures in him and things to say.
