Ha! Only one BYU. Already a benefit from getting this old fellow back to his "home langue". Just leave it blue linked. Everyone in the US knows where BYU is and for other readers, the blue link suffices. My impression on what needs to be done:

1. Add more facts from Historical Perspective (get copy of full article) and BYU papers refs.

2. Finish reffing anything in article covered by these two, but not cited yet.

3. Little more structure and proofing.

5. figure out how to validate the 130 papers (some citation service)?

6. ILL the autobiography. See what should be added.

7. Works sections with most prominent works. (I guess favoring those that are monographs and the like. I am familiar with one of his Mexico monographs (the nonsnake one).

8. Is it OK style to call BYU, BYU? Maybe once in parens first? Is common usage and we end up repeating long name a lot otherwise.

9. Get some image(s) of a creature named after him, or that he discovered.

The "130"[edit]

That might be from the Copeia that is hidden. Sounds like that sort of thing. And could include some obscure pubs. That said, I get 83 in google scholar whether doing Wilmer Tanner or Wilmer W Tanner. "W W Tanner" returned 89, seemingly all from him. I did not check all, though. "W Tanner" returns thousands and obviously from other people.

And on the "15", I bet that is Copeia also. For that, it would be really nice if we could get the list of them and have it in article.TCO (talk) 08:22, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just checking the incoming wiki pages, lots of snakes called out that Tanner classified first (all subspecies). Could make a list of those (or prose, I suppose). Why are dates messed up on Google books?[edit]

See here. They have Tanner's papers from 1940 including his work with the Atomic Energy Commission. No. I don't think so! Have seen these date mistakes recently with other people too. Added some more categories. Not really sure how to search and all that (although read the directions). Would think a category for Mormon person would make sense (not meaning it positive or negative, neutral). But I don't find such an animal. Yeah we did build it up fast. I think the best DYKs have some sort of really fasinating "hook" and we are lacking that now. Probably something related to number of species he identified or maybe the radioactive reptile work at the Nevada test site (just sounds kinda spooky cool, will draw people). To get it would need to research a bit more. (The stuff is out there, pretty easy to come by, just that's what needs to be done.) status update[edit]

got tiger pic image improved and in for a Featured Picture. Will link to new version soon.

Need to get new pic cropped. Was kind of the best one to pic in terms of being one that he worked with, not something "off" or from a different region.

Getting together a list of all the species, he identified. 17 snakes (at least). It is kind of an unholy mess right now as I cut and pasted from snake articles. Want to get the actual inline refs. Also still has date-linking! And links embedded inside the name of the snakes. In my sandbox.

Got the Copeia article! Reading it tonight.

I read the Copeia paper and it serves as a source for the 15 and the 130. Will probably go with that. Have been finding some slamandar and lizard species (and a genus) that he classified on wiki, but it is really confusing. Don't have a good off wiki list of them and even just using wiki as a pointer is hard as we lack stuff or articles don't all have references. Probably give up on giving a list of all the stuff he classified. Maybe cite some of it or...something.TCO (talk) 11:16, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

BLP no longer[edit]

Wilmer has died. I had tried to get in contact to talk turtles, but was told he was pretty far gone at the time. I guess in context of the article, there will be info from obits now. Also categorization.
