A few problematic entries[edit]

Dear Boleyn,
I hope you are keeping well? All is well here.
Please forgive me for asking you again for advice and guidance, and thank you in advance for your indulgence. Here goes!
After creating the article on William White (academic) recently, I added his entry in this dab page and also took the opportunity to review all the other entries and their articles, and take various actions where appropriate or necessary. However, I am not sure about the best course of action regarding the following four:
#1. In Sports, there is an entry for William White (boxer) which is actually a redirect to Walter White (boxer); the Walter White dab page also has an entry for the same subject (Walter White (boxer)).
Possible action(s): It would seem logical to remove the William White (boxer) entry from this dab page, and simply delete the redirect after fixing the links (from William White (boxer) to Walter White (boxer)) in the two other articles shown in What links here. What do you think?

My first thought was keep both, assuming that the boxer was perhaps known as Walter but had William on his birth certificate. As far as I can find though, the name William was just an error. I've resolved the incoming links. It could now be removed from William dab and possibly an RfD for William White (boxer). Boleyn (talk) 17:50, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your guidance, Boleyn. I have now removed William White (boxer) from this dab page, and also tagged the redirect for deletion, using Twinkle CSD/G6 (as you taught me recently). Thank you for resolving the incoming links, which would have been easy for me to do, but I appreciate your help.

#2. In Music, media, and writers, there is an entry for William H. White (maritime writer) which has been tagged with a {{multiple issues}} template, and seems to qualify for prodding, since the one source is the author's website, thus meeting WP:RSSELF.
Possible action(s): What would be your recommended course of action, please?

My first impression is that he looks non-notable, but I have got it wrong a number of times with academics and authors, it can be tricky. You may be best to see how significant the fellowship is and if he seems to meet any part of WP:PROF, WP:AUTHOR or WP:GNG. Personally I would go for AfD rather than prod on academics, just because I find them harder to assess accurately, but it does look non-notable. Boleyn (talk) 17:50, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

#3. In Science and medicine, there is an entry for William E. White which is a redirect to Recreational use of dextromethorphan, where he is cited three times. The What links here page shows the article (or its redirect) had already been discussed for deletion in October 2009 but it's still here. The other links are not to any articles in main space.
Possible action(s): Again, it seems ready for prodding or deleting but I've no experience in taking either of these actions.

RfD is an option. The article was deleted, and it has been created as a redirect. I've changed the redirect so it goes to the specific paragraph that talks about White's work. I would probably leave it, just thinking WP:REDIRECTSARECHEAP and it is potentially WP:USEFUL. Boleyn (talk) 17:50, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your advice, Boleyn. I will leave this as-is. Thank you also for refining the redirect, a new learning for me.

#4. In Science and medicine, there is also an entry for William L. White, which has also been tagged with a {{multiple issues}} template, including that it reads like the subject's CV. This one was created by User:Meherfriend, who hasn't been active since 01:12, 6 June 2013. It might probably be worth salvaging, but will require a bit of work, and definitely to reduce its reliance on the subject's website as a primary source; again meeting WP:RSSELF.
Possible action(s): What would be your recommended course of action, please? If you think it is worth keeping, I could trim it down to a stub and try to find more sources. Otherwise, should it be prodded, do you think?

You've a few options. You could add a notability tag, so it will be looked over at some point, but currently the backlog at CAT:NN is over 11 years. However, it might mean an interested editor could look it over and add their assessment, as not all articles in CAT:NN are looked at in order. There are a lot of awards listed, but I didn't see any of them as automatically notable. I again would probably do a bit of research, then if I hadn't been convinced, look at AfD. Finally, I hope it was OK to discuss these four articles here for now, and we could continue separate discussions at their respective talk pages, if necessary; I hope the above will at least help explain why some of the entries in the present dab page will have been removed, if that's what we'll end up doing. As always, very many thanks for your advice with these.
With kind regards;

Bill White (US Marine centenarian)[edit]

How about an article about Bill White, reportedly the oldest living US Marine (at 105 years of age)? MaynardClark (talk) 22:10, 30 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
