William Clinton (disambiguation)William Clinton – In the same manner as Jimmy Carter, who has not been known to the public as James Carter, Bill Clinton has not been known to the public as William Clinton. Few, if any, searchers for "Bill Clinton" are going to type "William Clinton", just as few, if any, searchers for "Jimmy Carter" are going to type "James Carter", which is neither a primary redirect to Jimmy Carter, nor is the president even listed at the top of the James Carter disambiguation page. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 12:47, 12 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. There are multiple people named James Carter on Wikipedia; this is not the case with William Clinton, of which there is only one other sparsely viewed one (two if you count William de Clinton, who is a PTM). Since the President is referred to as William in more formal contexts, like "Public Papera of William Clinton", there's no reason to think it's not a plausible search term or that he isn't the primary topic. Neither President Carter nor President Clinton has ever been referred to as simply "James Carter" or "William Clinton". Even in those more formal contexts they would be referred to as James Earl Carter Jr. / James Earl Carter or James E. Carter and as William Jefferson Clinton or William J. Clinton. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 20:22, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose good faith nom. If there were more notable William Clinton's, maybe, but this William Clinton seems like the obvious primary for the redirect as it is his formal name and is used in many sources and events. Long-term significance would also land it in its present link as a redirect. Randy Kryn (talk) 22:21, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. I think of the three people listed on the dab page, the president would come out top in terms of long-term significance as well as common usage. He is certainly sometimes known by his full moniker of "William Jefferson Clinton", so it would not be unsurprising for people to search for the long form of his Christian name without the middle name. It's worth noting as well that none of the three was apparently primarily known as "William Clinton" anyway, they were respectively Bill Clinton, William de Clinton and William Henry Clinton. So it's not like the other two have a better claim to the name than Billy...  — Amakuru (talk) 23:05, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Searching the name in quotes in Google news, search and books indicates that the president remains the primary topic and most likely intended target for those using this term.--Yaksar (let's chat) 06:10, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
