Question regarding his life after service[edit]

My father met Major General Brown, PhD during the brief period between when he completed his Doctorate and his death. He was greatly impressed by the man, and noted to me that The then Dr. Brown was serving as a lecturer, I believe at the University of Alabama. Is there anyone who can verify this? I feel that it is an important addition to the man's history, since it typified his approach to life and tenacity: He began as a Private, worked his way up to the rank of Major General, retired, began again as an undergraduate, worked his way up to a PhD and a Univeristy post. According to my father, he saw nothing remarkible in this, it was just the way one did things. That is perhaps the best testimant of all.
