Wiawaka is of importance because it is on the National Register of Historical places. A title which should not be taken lightly and which is the result of historical scrutiny by the Parks Department. Additionally, there are only 34 NY sites where "Women made History." Wiawaka is one of the oldest continously operating women's retreat center in the USA, and it's present nonprofit mission serves as a valuable reminder of its past historic efforts at bettering the lives of Upstate NY women while continuing this tradition.
