The description of the second verse is inaccurate; the second verse also deals with advancements in technology, as it mentions that his grandfather wrote multiple letters to his grandmother, while he now has video-chats with people as far away as Japan. Paisley includes this verse:

    I had a friend in school,

I've looked for any real life reference to this event, but cannot find any. Does anyone know whether it's true? (He was raised in West Virginia when the former Grand Kleagle of the KKK, Robert Byrd, from West Virginia was considered the long-standing "conscience of the Senate" by his fellow Democrats, so it's possible.)
