ETM[edit]

There should be some emphasis on the on-going problems related to the faulty Electronic Throttle Modules (ETMs) fitted to this car. Volvo’s behaviour over this matter has been appalling. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.212.169.76 (talk) 11:15, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Poor article[edit]

"Unparalleled safety, comfort, usability, and luxury all make the 2007 Volvo V70 a standout among other station wagons of comparable class." This can be read in the "overview" part of the article. Moving on: "While once thought of as the stereotypical "soccer mom" car, many business professionals, doctors, executives, politicians, and the like find refuge in the cabins of their XC70s." Firstly, the XC70 is not the same thing as the V70. Secondly, one could think that that marketing officials at Volvo have been here at wikipedia and snuck in some of their oppinions. I'm deleting this, as these two points are highly subjective and do not suffice in quality to fit into an encyclopedia. CarlB, April 12 2007

Years, models, bad information[edit]

Some of the information is not accurate at the moment (April 11 2007). I, for example, own a V70 that should not exist according to this page, since it's a) year model 1997, b) assembled in Ghent, Belgium, c) has a 2.0 l T5 engine. According to my knowledge, the first V70 was released in 1996, not 1998. Maybe the current information on the page is based on data regarding a specific region, e.g. the United States? I'm not a Volvo, nor a car expert, so I won't edit the page, but it's pretty clear that the V70 history needs to be corrected.

Trying to rewrite[edit]

Trying to rewrite... to add clarity and accuracy to some of the other sections. TatClarkson 02:28, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

??? :o[edit]

First Generation (1998 - 2000) There were some minor improvements in the design from the original 850, including better handling and an uprated specification, but otherwise this was the same car.

doesn't the v70 have a completely new nose? <-- True :o

---Need to reword this part to indicate that the 1st Gen V70 was 'structurally similar' to the old 850, but contained freshened body panels, and interior appointments.

New V70[edit]

Two third-generation V70 prototypes were spotted in Stjørdalen yesterday. [1] Should this be mentioned in the article?

According to the swedish road authorities: 4,75 m long and 1,81 m tall, 1670 kg, 430 kg max cargo weight. The diesel had 136 horsepower, while the petrol version had 146 hp. κаллэмакс 15:51, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

??? :o[edit]

but the use of the V70 name this time round may suggest a model continuity with Volvo's estate range and that should the S60 be replaced an estate version will not be produced, as with the previous V70.

=/ impossible sentence imo

Engine size on 2000 V70R[edit]

Is this right? V70 R AWD ($41,500 MSRP): 2.3L I5, 261 hp (195 kW) at 5,700 rpm and 258 ft•lbf (350 N•m) from 2,400 to 5,100 rpm

According to http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=7170&postid=213765 the specs should be:

2000 U.S. V70R Automatic:

  • The 2000 V70R was available in these colors:
  • Output: 261hp - 8.5:1 compression
  • Max Torque: 258 ft lbs

Why so American-centric?[edit]

There are Volvos all over the world, (I own one in the united Kingdom, and one in New Zealand) so why are we only given information on the US spec / US list prices / US model years etc.?? I think it would improve the article, and make it more relevant to everyone on Wikipedia, if someone who knows a bit about Volvos could please add some more content that wasn't just US specific. N.b. - This doesn't mean removing any US related content, just adding other content to improve the scope of the article. Thanks :) Oliver 60.234.251.100 22:21, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Second that. I'm going crazy over all the Americanized articles on en-wiki... ):abach 02:55, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe change the photo of the third generation V70 to an V70 instead of an xc70

Overhaul[edit]

Someone had clearly mistaken this encyclopedia for Car and Driver. I restored the correct geographical emphasis and removed the marketing puff, as well as clearing up a few misconceptions and adding some specs for the third generation car (I will add more when I dig the brochure out). • Thank you very much for that (: abach 01:56, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well done! CarlB

New to editing Wikipedia, just throwing this out there. I know there was a Volvo Ocean Race edition on the V70, XC70, and that SUV. There's a new edition this year and there were two prior to it. Anyone else got some info on it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.181.230.229 (talk) 03:00, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Consumer Friendliness[edit]

Can we please make a section called Consumer Friendliness, Consumer Accessability, Total Cost of Ownership, or something similar, for all cars, so that we can start to get some actual useful information about owning these things? The Volvo V70, like many other cars, has a computer which you cannot reset yourself and have to pay a Volvo dealership a lot of money just to do so. That's not my only gripe, not by far.

The "openness" of most auto makers now days is abysmal. You can't even download service repair manuals on their website. They try to charge you lots of money to replace them when they should be public knowledge. Many of the manuals though, even if you do have them, just tell you to take it to the dealership for fixing everything. That's why we need some kind of consumer friendliness rating system or at least a section describing such on Wikipedia. Consumers need to band together and start demanding more from auto makers and need to buy cars which are friendly to their owner, and not to the wallets of the auto maker. They need to own their cars and not have strings attached. To this end, Wikipedia could be much more useful if it carried this kind of information.

Service vehicles[edit]

Why are these so popular as service vehicles? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.161.230.7 (talk) 18:57, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why I removed the comment about the S70...[edit]

The article had included a statement that "Where the first generation V70 had a saloon variant (S70), the second generation lost the S70 as the new S80 was now seen to be the 'S70 for the new millennium'." This is actually incorrect in a few ways. First, the S80 was actually the successor to the S90, which was the successor of the 940/960. Second, due to a change in nomenclature at the time - Volvo decided that all 4-door vehicles would have even first digits (40, 60, 80) whereas 5- and 2-door vehicles would have odd first digits (50, 70, 90). The S60 is actually the direct successor of the S70, which was the successor of the 850. Since this is not easy to explain and isn't really relevant to the V70 (it affects only the S70), I removed this. If someone feels it really does belong and wants to say it again, at least you'll have the correct data now. 71.250.178.153 (talk) 19:01, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I support the removal, but more because it is unreferenced and hence unverified. Unfortunately, most of this article, and indeed most car articles suffer from this. Info should be verified or removed. cheers --Merbabu (talk) 04:34, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

V70 is not a mid-size car[edit]

It's the E-class car (executive), between D and F-segments, enough misleading readers — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.140.233.227 (talk) 20:21, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Third Generation - Facelift information / pictures[edit]

I believe the information and pictures regarding facelifts to the third generation models to be muddled and incorrect.

Firstly, there are pictures of three cars, allegedly showing two facelifts. As far as I'm concerned, there is no notable age-related difference between the black and silver cars pictured (claiming to be pre- and post- "first" facelift) aside from the revised front grille (2010) and mirrors (2012) - but that's not a "facelift" in any meaningful sense. The two cars appear to have greater visual differences, but that is partly related to their respective colours hiding or highlighting details in the bumper design (which is, in fact, exactly the same), and partly down to specification (for the UK it is chrome/stainless trim for SE Lux, and plain black trim for lesser models). Otherwise, they are identical. The article goes on to incorrectly mention a facelift in 2012, and cites a Volvo Cars press release which mentions new mirrors (true) and headlights (which is a mystery - they are identical to the older ones as far as I am aware!), but not any of the other changes incorrectly claimed to have taken place in 2012.

The actual facelift came a year later, in 2013, with new bumpers front and rear, another new (and significantly wider) grille, new rear lights - that can reasonably be described as a facelift. The 2012 Volvo cars article does not mention any of these changes. Here is the 2014 model year (dated May 2013) announcement, announcing the facelift: https://www.media.volvocars.com/uk/en-gb/media/pressreleases/49100/volvo-v70-model-year-2014

Proposals: - Either remove the image of the black or silver car, or at least the caption references to facelifts. Perhaps reference "early/late grille and mirrors" respectively, if we must? - Revise the facelift date to 2013. Extract the reference to the mirrors and grille badge (as they did not happen in 2013), and replace the latter with a mention of an all-new wider grille.

I am happy to make the edits, but this will be my first ever Wiki edit, and I'm not sure of the etiquette. Any objections to me proceeding? Foggyjames (talk) 01:57, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
