Map request[edit]

Reqmap for Volcanic Seven Second Summits.

An elevation world map has been added. Are you asking for maps of each summit? Mheart (talk) 19:46, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Volcanoes in Tibet higher than Damavand[edit]

A Chinese source has identified a pair of 5800m mountains in Tibet with more than 500 metres of prominence which are claimed to be extinct volcanoes. More details to follow. Viewfinder (talk) 21:26, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Accuracy of maps in Chile and Argentina[edit]

"Although topographic maps of the Chile and Argentina border region which contains the highest peaks are of notoriously poor accuracy, with elevation errors exceeding 100 metres (330 ft) in many cases". What is the basis for that claim? I am not aware of the quality of Argentinean maps, but I know by my own experience that the altitudes given in the Chilean ones (IGM maps) are very accurate and have been carefully measured... --Jopiquer (talk) 05:18, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hawaii[edit]

I agree with reluctance, that the island of New Guinea is part of the same "continent" as Australia, as it rides on the same tectonic plate and is separated from the continent by a narrow and shallow strait which has been dry land in recent, pre-historic times. As you could reason that Britain is geologically part of Europe. But the claim that Hawaii is part of Australia is nonsense. It is on a different plate, it is over 9000 km from the nearest part of Australia. Most mid-oceanic islands are not part of any continent and people need to come to terms with that instead of trying to shoe-horn them in.Eregli bob (talk) 08:48, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
