Serious problems[edit]

I have re-written the lead sentence. But this article has multiple very serious issues. It seems to be mixing up several people. It is titled Victor Zelman, but it started out

Alberto Zelman (1832 – 1907) was a violinist, painter and etcher originally from Trieste, mostly know for his art created after he moved to Australia in 1871.

But Victor Zelman (1877-1960) was the artist and he was born in Australia. He was the brother of Alberto Zelman (violinist and founder of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) and they were both the sons of the lesser known musician Alberto Zelman (senior) who born in Trieste. Neither Alberto Senior nor Alberto Junior was an artist, although Victor briefly performed as a violist (not a violinist) before dedicating himself to a career as a painter and etcher. It is also full of inappropriate conjecture, speculation and original research, which is not permitted on Wikipedia. This is not ready for article space and I strongly recommend moving it to draft space. It needs an enormous amount of work and proper research to make it even remotely coherent, accurate, and verifiable. Voceditenore (talk) 18:17, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Update Many thanks to User:Theroadislong who removed virtually all of the original research and reworded for clarity. I have removed further original research, speculation, and personal commentary from the section on sales of Zelman's works since 1969 and referenced the remaining assertions there properly. I have also added links to this article from those of his father and elder brother. Consequently, I have removed the tags for orphaned, confusing, contradictory, and inaccurate. I've left the tag for original research and speculation as it still needs a final going over to make sure none remains. I've added tags requiring: better formatting and more complete information for the citations, the majority of which are still inadequate and include Ibid; addition of more internal links; and copyediting to comply with the Manual of Style (the lists of works need proper formatting, italic titles, etc.). Sources[edit]

The citation is currently very poor, making it difficult to verify some of the claims made, although much of this can be fixed. There are a considerable number of articles about Victor Zelman, his family, and his paintings in the Australian press of the time. They are all diigitized by the National Library of Australia and available here. Voceditenore (talk) 10:28, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
