This is like the Chevrolet Volt window-dressing: GM calls it an electric vehicle with range extender, when in fact they are plug-in hybrid vehicles. They have an electric motor and an internal combustion engine at the same time. So how can you call this an electric vehicle? VIA Motors added Li-Ion batteries to the vehicles, but didnt remove the internal combustion engine. They are plug-in hybrids, not electric vehicles.--Arado (talk) 15:37, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You will need to write a letter to the SAE then and complain to them I guess. lol At end of the line this vehicles propulsion system is powered exclusively by electricity, hence it is an electric vehicle, BUT WITH a range extender. Unlike the Volt gasoline is not ever used to provide tractive propulsion, ONLY to generate electricity and ONLY when absolutely required (i.e. to extend electrically powered range and/or to provide additional electrical peak power when demand is high). The only real difference as compared to a typical BEV is this generation (once it becomes necessary that is, which is AFTER the grid sourced base station charge energy from the battery is depleted) takes place "on car" as opposed to at a power station (be it coal, fossil fuel, hydro, solar, wind or some other renewable energy source). This operation is similar in function to the REx equipped version of the BMW i3 which I'm pretty sure you are familiar with and quite confident it is also referred to as an "electric vehicle WITH range extension" as opposed to a plug-in hybrid.So split those hairs of you wish at an "EV Evangelist" level, but at an engineering level the entire VIA MOTORS product line are electric vehicles.WopOnTour (talk) 17:09, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
