Family Background

Born in a family of Freedom fighters of Gondwana and social reformers in village Fingeshwar in Raipur district of erstwhile Madhya Pradesh (now in Chhattisgarh).

Grand-Grand Daughter of shaheed Raja Natwar Singh alias Lalla Shah of Haridaypur in Narsighpur district of Madhya Pradesh who was hanged by the Britishers. Other members of the family were sent to Kalapani (life imprisonment ) in exile.

Daughter-in-law of late Rani Shyam Kumari Devi, who remained as MP throughout her life.
