Pronunciation[edit]

I deleted the sentence with the attached reference:

Although the proper pronunciation is OO-bik-way, the meter of the poem suggests Kipling pronounced it oo-BIK-we

In Classical Latin, the word scans as ˈŭbīquēˈ - therefore, the accent is properly placed over the long ˈiˈ of the penult (i.e., oo-BIK-we).
