Notability[edit]

This article was marked for possible deletion due to lack of notability. I would argue that it is indeed notable for the following reasons:

  1. There are lots of good quality articles that refer to the software. Using Google Scholar you can find many articles depending on how you word the search ("UTEXAS" "UTEXAS4" "slope stability" software). Unfortunately "utexas" is also part of the University of Texas domain (www.utexas.edu) and email addresses (someone@mail.utexas.edu) so these hits show up in results making it harder to find articles about the UTEXAS software (why did he name his slope stability software "UTEXAS" ???).
  2. The software (among others) is used by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, leaders in dam and levee construction.
  3. The software was used to analyze I-wall failures in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina (see references).
  4. The software is still being used and distributed.
  5. There is an educational version (UTEXASED4) that is available at a great discount to universities. This is used in at least two locations (University of Texas and BYU) and perhaps others.
