Twizzler = straw[edit]

To the anon IP who removed the "bite both ends off a twizzler and use it as a straw" line, yes, you totally can. You might think it's not "hollow enough" but I've done it several times. Use it to drink a Coke and the cherry flavoring gets into the the Coke and it tastes pretty great. I'm not going to add it back because it's stupid and trivial anyway, but now people know. Article needs much improvement[edit]

I came here looking for an informed article on Twizzlers. Beyond just the bare minimum perfunctory history of Y&S, I wanted to know about what happened to the green (mint?) twizzlers of days past. Also, a little info on the chemical makeup of the current "strawberry" twizzlers would be nice since they have a very appealing, but obviously chemical-laden taste. Makes me wonder what really is in them. So I came here, and what do I get? Half the article is about some stupid jewish "law". I'm sure that twizzlers cannot be the only food that is in question, why not spin the jewish law thing off to another article, or at least explain why it pertains only to twizzlers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.206.211.14 (talk) 22:36, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I fully agree with you here no one even mentioned Starburst Twizzlers (NOT THE RAINBOW BRAND THEY MADE)It had the texture and design of the peel type twizzlers and the flavors of starburst candies but they stopped selling them a long time ago and finding a picture of them online is extremely rare. Racist assertions[edit]

The statement is made that Nibs were called "Nigger babies" in the 1950's. Was this the official name, printed on the package? We've come a long way, but I have a hard time believing the product actually had this name printed on it.

Second Timelime[edit]

I've moved the second timeline from the article, placing it here in case an editor wishes to incorporate some of the information back into the article. It is written too much like a trivia section and seems to largely duplicate the other timeline in the article, but with potentially useful information included, so I didn't just trash it Geoff ^T ^C 14:57, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline:

1845- Young & Smylie confectionery firm is established. 1850- Millard Fillmore, 13th U.S. President, keeps secret supply of licorice whips in Oval Office. 1870- Y & S candies, Inc. is adopted as the company trademark. 1873- Jesse James disappointed after robbing a train but not taking what it had originally came for: the shipment of Twizzlers. 1902- National Licorice Company is established with the merger of Young and Smylie, S.V. & F.P. Shudder and H.W. Petherbridge. 1968- National Licorice Company is renamed Y & S Candies, Inc. 1969- After his "giant leap for mankind" statement, Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong is rumored to have made lesser-known second remark on the moon: "I could go for some Twizzlers right now." 1977: Yet another landmark year: Y & S Candies Inc. is acquired by Hershey Foods Corporation. 1994- Hersheys Foods Corporation introduces Twizzlers Pull-n-Peel candy. 1998- Twizzlers Candy is introduced into the Guiness World Record thanks to Y & S Candy Plant in Lancaster,Pennsylvania who produced a 1,200 foot long and 100 pound licorice. 2000- Large stashes of Twizzlers candies hidden away for "emergency" triggered by the Y2K fear, are consumed. Reports indicate that Twizzlers Candy frenzy in Times Square outdraws New Year's Eve crowd. 2004- Twizzlers Twerpz candy and Twizzlers Strawz candy are introduced. 2005- Twizzlers Candy "Makes Mouths Happy" Ad airs on TV. 2006- A new introduction is made: Twizzlers Rainbow Twist candy. 2009- Yet a new candy release: Twizzlers Sweet & Sour Filled Twists

Wrong data and other issues[edit]

I don't know what the right data is, but the article says the original flavor was licorice (I'm sure it was) and "since 1990" other flavors are made, including strawberry. Strawberry Twizzlers have been around far longer than 1990. The article also says licorice was introduced in 1845, but this site says 1929. Further, the time line is simply pulled from the Hershey's website. This article definitely needs clean-up. Strawberry twizzlers[edit]
