New Category for British Motorcycles

As part of the Motorcycling WikiProject I am working though all the missing articles and stubs for British Bikes. To make things easier to sort out I have created a category for British motorcycles. Please will you add to any British motorcycle pages you find or create. It will also help to keep things organised if you use the Template:Infobox Motorcycle or add it where it is missing. I've linked the Category to the Commons British Motorcycles so you could help with matching pics to articles or adding the missing images to the Commons - take your camera next time you go to a rally! Colours

Just as WP:NOPRICES applies to listing prices on articles because they vary so much by market, the same I believe should be true of colours. Different markets have different colour schemes. The references given in the contributions I just reverted were country specific - UK, Holland, New Zealand so I believe it is wrong to assume the same colours are available globally within the same model year. Plus, I just don't think that colours have a place in an encyclopaedia unless they are a specific commemorative or limited edition colour scheme e.g. a race replica. --Biker Biker (talk) 15:24, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Agree. I don't see any citations that any of these color schemes were notable in independent media, and a Triumph dealer is hardly an independent source. My favorite example is the copper/silver color scheme of the 1999 Suzuki Hayabusa received commentary in the media and was an example of Suzuki's deliberate move to double down the unexpected/ugly/beautiful design with a controversial color. The other color schemes of the 1999 Hayabusa did not receive any media attention, nor did those of the years that followed. In short, colors are mentioned selectively, not exhaustively.

I fail to understand an objection to listing colour schemes, which are useful to buyers and owners, quite apart from the factual significance. The majority come from Triumph pages where possible. Osric Wuscfrea (talk) 21:36, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

WP:NOTCATALOG is one reason: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a sales catalog. Assisting buyers in shopping is not what an encyclopedia is for. I'm not sure what "factual significance" means. Just because something is a fact, that doesn't make it significant; as the link says at #7, Wikipedia is not "a complete exposition of all possible details." Again, we are guided by our sources: if a credible source tells us that a color scheme mattered for some reason, that's good enough. --Dbratland (talk) 22:03, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
