Curse of Jacob[edit]

A link to this page from Israelite references a "Curse of Jacob," which curse might appropriately be explained or cited here. Hence the "fact" tag. Advance thanks to whomever completes that cite. -- TheEditrix2 23:58, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Citations[edit]

Could someone please make the citations for this article more clear. Also, it repeatedly invokes "textual scholars" but doesn't say who. The only reference to such claims is Peake's commentary on the Bible, which is almost 100 years old, and nowhere does it say where in the commentary I should look for verification. The reference is also no properly written, with only a link to the Wikipedia article on the commentary. Needs a lot of cleanup. Kristamaranatha (talk) 09:25, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coat Of Arms Image[edit]

What is the notability and connection for the coat of arms image (currently labeled with "Portuguese sketch. The English name is Simeon.")? This appears to be a self-created image out of the imagination of some author. It does not seem to have any biblical basis, nor any historical significance, it is in Portuguese rather than any language that could understandably be connected with this WP article, and I am not sure what information this contributes/adds to this article.

It would seem reasonable to remove this image. — al-Shimoni (talk) 01:31, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Three weeks have passed and so far no response to the above. I went ahead and removed it. If you disagree, please respond to the above to discuss this before reädding it. Many thanks. — al-Shimoni (talk) 04:29, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Character[edit]

The "Character" section seems in need of an overhaul. At present, it doesn't present any kind of unified discussion about the "character" of the Tribe of Simeon (whatever that might mean). Instead, it gives a paragraph on the traditions in Chronicles about its territory, and follows that with a single sentence about a mention of a Midrash. The material on Chronicles would fit easily in the "History" section, while the Midrashic material could be placed alongside other post-biblical traditions from the end of the history section into its own bit.

We could split the "History" section into "biblical narrative" and "extrabiblical traditions", and then we'd have a better-organized article. Alephb (talk) 09:12, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

According to WP:LEAD, the lead section should contain a concise summary of what's found in the article as a whole. As it stands now, the first sentence starts off well, but then the next two paragraphs contain material not found elsewhere in the article, and there isn't a summary of what is found in the article. The lead paragraph on the allocation of the land under Joshua could easily be placed between the first and second paragraphs of the origin section, while last paragraph could be spun off into its own "Territory" section. The territory section could then be enhanced by adding specific material from Judges, pulling in some material from Chronicles currently in the "Biblical Narrative" section, and adding some information from scholarly sources. And then, of course, the lead would need to be expanded to summarize the article contents. Alephb (talk) 09:21, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
